Tua’s younger brother, Taulia, has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. He has already played his five seasons of college football and has used the extra eligibility granted by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Maryland quarterback, who was a part of the 2019 recruiting class, began his career in Alabama before transferring to Maryland in 2020. Soon after coming to Maryland, he became the starting quarterback and played 37 games over the next three seasons.

In 2023, Tagovailoa had “290-of-437 passing for 3,377 yards and 25 TDs with 11 interceptions.” Tagovailoa’s waiver case for a sixth season is based on his freshman year at Alabama in 2019, where he played in five games. However, he wished that he hadn’t played in the fourth game due to his brother’s season-ending hip injury. Therefore, he has filed for a waiver for an extra year of eligibility, and if granted, he will likely be sought after by Power Five Programs, which look for experienced starters.
