After two straight wins, the Buffalo Bills fell flat in an embarrassing loss to the struggling Miami Dolphins in week 10. The loss pushed them two games behind the division leaders, the Patriots. This can even hamper their chances to win the division. While football pundits have pointed out several reasons for the slump, it seems that the Bills’ head coach, Sean McDermott, needs a bit more clarity on what’s going wrong.

“We do need to continue to turn over every stone to figure out why this is happening,” McDermott said after the game. “I feel like it has happened quite a bit year to year. This year, probably as much as I’ve been around.. We have to figure it out.” Sean McDermott was signalling the injuries piling up for his team this season.

The Bills just can’t catch a break on the injury front. Their roster is banged up, with the defense line taking the hardest hits. Multiple defensive ends are out with serious injuries like ACL tears and Achilles ruptures.

Landon Jackson went down with a knee injury in the week 10 clash against the Dolphins. There’s a real concern that it could be another ACL tear. This could be a big reason to worry, given A.J. Epenesa is already out, stuck in concussion protocol for week 10. Michael Hoencht tore his Achilles tendon earlier against Kansas City and is done for the season. But the concerns don’t just rest here.

Key starters like cornerback

Christian Benford, Taron Johnson, and wide receiver Joshua Palmer are all nursing injuries. While McDermott is still clueless about who to blame, his star quarterback has found someone to take the heat.

Josh Allen finally finds someone to blame for the loss

After the Bills’ tough 30-13 loss on Sunday, Josh Allen didn’t shy away from accountability. He owned the defeat and admitted that the offense just didn’t click the way it should’ve. He pointed out that turning the ball three times, including that red-zone interception by Miami safety Ifeatu Melifonwu and a late fumble, was the recipe for disaster.

“I’ve got to be better. I’ve got to be better in the protection game, the pass game, and the run game. All of it,” he said. “It starts with me, so I’ve gotta be better. It starts with me. But we didn’t execute. I didn’t execute.”

The recognizing MVP went for 28 of 40 for 306 yards with a QBR of a mere 28.8. But it was the passing game that couldn’t move the ball, which McDermott also pointed out. “I felt like there were some times where we weren’t open”, as reported by Alex Brasky, Bills digest editor.

With a real threat in the passing game, the defenses are locking in on James Cook and other receivers from making big plays. It’s now becoming a headache that keeps the Bills’ offense stuck in neutral, leaving Sean McDermott and Joe Brady still searching for answers.
