Is Patrick Mahomes injured? Neither Mahomes nor Andy Reid hinted at anything unusual before practice. Reid only mentioned that defensive end Mike Danna, battling a quad, and cornerback Kristian Fulton, dealing with an ankle, would be sidelined. Still, Mahomes appeared on the Chiefs’ injury sheet this week.

As per the report, Mahomes was listed with a wrist issue in his throwing hand, yet marked as a full participant in Wednesday’s practice. So there’s no reason for the Chiefdom to hit the panic button just yet. Meanwhile, rookie wideout Xavier Worthy with a shoulder concern and Jalen Royals with a knee issue were limited participants. Even so, the wide receiver room looks like it will be intact for Sunday Night Football against the New York Giants.

To balance the roster, the Chiefs shuffled the practice squad on Tuesday, bringing back linebacker Cole Christiansen while letting wideout Hal Pressley go. That move pointed to confidence that both rookie receivers will suit up.

As for Mahomes, his wrist didn’t seem to slow him in the media’s viewing window of practice. He was slinging passes as usual. In the rare chance the injury lingers, Gardner Minshew would step in to lead the offense. But for now, Kansas City expects Mahomes to start on Sunday and change the narrative after two consecutive losses.

Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs will face injury-ridden Giants

Apart from Patrick Mahomes, who just turned 30, another surprise name pops up on the injury sheet. Rookie left tackle Josh Simmons is listed with an illness. But the recent report says he’s on track to return. Because of NFL rules, even small issues must be disclosed; thus, this listing seemed like a protocol. However, his final status will be clear in Friday’s report.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ injury list is more crowded. They ruled out three linebackers from Wednesday’s practice, with starting inside linebacker Darius Muasau sitting due to a concussion and eye issue. That loss alone hits the middle of their defense hard, especially with Kansas City coming to town.

In addition, linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles is dealing with a calf injury that kept him out against Dallas and could potentially land him on injured reserve this week. To make matters worse for the Giants, edge rusher Chauncey Gholston sat out practice with an ankle problem, leaving their defensive front severely depleted.

On top of that, wide receivers Wan’Dale Robinson, Gunner Olszewski, and Darius Slayton were all limited, while the entire left side of the offensive line is dealing with injuries as well—John Michael Schmitz, Jon Runyan, and Andrew Thomas.

So now, both sides will wait to see who actually suits up under the lights.
