Dak Prescott is arguably the best quarterback in the entire NFL. That’s not fan chatter; it’s coming straight from Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. But is that because Dak’s playing better than anyone else in the league?

After Prescott’s recent electrifying 40-40 tie performance against the Green Bay Packers, Schottenheimer’s answer was loud and clear. Coach didn’t mince words on 105.3 The Fan about Dak. He’s straight up impressed, “The word I keep coming back to is confidence, man.” It’s a message loud enough for all 31 other NFL teams to hear.
That’s his way of saying Dak’s got something special on the field right now. And the Cowboys coach went a step further, boldly adding, “If there’s a quarterback playing better right now than Dak Prescott in the league, I’d love to see him.”

That’s a bold claim, especially considering the talent across the league. You have Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and the like, all considered elite QB material. But Schottenheimer is sticking to his guns, and the numbers validate his stance.

Prescott’s recent performance against the Packers involved completing 31 of 40 passes (78%) for 319 yards and three touchdowns, with an additional rushing touchdown to boot. And there’s added color to this stat line, too.
Dallas didn’t have All-Pro wideout CeeDee Lamb, no starting center or right guard, and even left tackle Tyler Guyton was missing late due to concussion protocol. Yet Prescott found wideout George Pickens for 138 yards (Pickens’ second-best career game). And connected reliably with Jake Ferguson, KaVontae Turpin, and Jalen Tolbert.
The quarterback’s clutch plays and smart adjustments at the line were on full display. In short, even in that tie game, he was nothing short of magnificent. Still, confidence is one thing, but football is a team sport, and the Cowboys are feeling the pain of injuries this season.
Brian Schottenheimer breaks down Cowboys’ injury roadblocks
On 105.3 The Fan, Schottenheimer addressed the state of the team’s health ahead of upcoming games. He admitted that the Cowboys are fighting through a lot of injuries. Tyler Guyton (concussion), Tyler Smith (knee), and Marshawn Kneeland (ankle) all showed up on the injury list, not exactly the dream scenario.
But after two games that practically lasted 70 minutes, it’s no surprise. Schottenheimer didn’t dodge any questions; instead, he promised today’s practice would be the big reveal.
“We’ll know more kind of after today because Friday’s your last day of really running. Today’s the last day you’re putting the final dress rehearsal together, and we’ll do some full-speed red zone and third downs and some things like that, hit some of the openers and things like that,” Schottenheimer said.

“But we’ve got some questions, and I’m not avoiding the question. I’m just telling you, again, I don’t think we’ll know until probably after today’s practice where we sit.” The Cowboys remain hopeful but realistic. Schottenheimer’s candor about the injury situation signals a team bracing for adversity and needing to adapt rapidly.
The question looming: will the resilience built around Prescott’s confidence be enough to overcome this daunting injury toll and get Dallas back to winning ways?
