The Dallas Cowboys gathered on Monday at The Star for one of their most emotional meetings in recent memory. It marked their first face-to-face session since the heartbreaking loss of Marshawn Kneeland, the team’s 24-year-old defensive end. Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer led the discussion alongside team psychologist Heather Twedell. Now, the team is working on a tribute that will endure beyond the season.
Solomon Thomas and several of his teammates decided to do something that felt right. They drove to Metrocrest Services, a local nonprofit in the heart of The Big D, to pack meals for the homeless and families in need.

Marshawn Kneeland, a 24-year-old defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, tragically passed away on November 6, 2025. Police confirmed his death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a traffic incident in Frisco, Texas.

The Cowboys released a heartfelt statement later that day, mourning the loss of a beloved teammate and expressing support for his family and loved ones.
Now, the Cowboys are preparing a lasting tribute.

Players will have a say in designing a special helmet sticker that will carry his initials and spirit through the rest of the season. Every snap, every tackle, every win, they’ll carry him with them. And the tribute doesn’t stop there.
The team will also wear specially designed t-shirts for their next two games, first under the bright lights of Allegiant Stadium in Sin City, then back home at AT&T Stadium against the Eagles.
Thomas opened up later, reflecting on what that moment meant.

“I even told [my teammates], Hey, I understand if you don’t want to come,’ and all of them wanted to come. So the fact that they all wanted to come and just be around each other, I think that’s all we wanted. We just wanted to be around each other because we’re all hurting. We feel the absence, and so we just want to be there to love on each other.”
But now let’s look at more details of their “emotional” meeting.

Cowboys’ “emotional” team meeting after Marshawn Kneeland’s demise
Last Thursday morning hit the Big D hard. The Cowboys confirmed the heartbreaking news of Marshawn Kneeland’s passing. Soon after that, the team quickly held a virtual meeting to process what had happened. Leaders like Dak Prescott and Solomon Thomas stepped up, speaking from the heart. But now they met in person. This time.
Head coach Brian Schottenheimer took charge of the gathering. Alongside him were team psychologist Heather Twedell and director of security Cable Johnson. Together, they created a space that felt safe, not scripted. Everyone showed up not as athletes, but as people dealing with loss.

“Extremely impactful, extremely emotional,” Solomon Thomas said after the meeting. “Extremely proud of coach [Brian Schottenheimer] for how he conducted today, just bringing therapists in the building, bringing people who we needed in the building and just letting us be our true emotions. Giving us a safe place to let everyone know what’s going on inside.”

His words painted the picture perfectly, this was about support, not strategy.
Thomas also admitted how rare it felt. “I haven’t been around a program that’s done something like that before,” he said, adding that it showed Schottenheimer’s genuine love for his players.
The session, he said, was “extremely draining and hard,” but necessary. A day to cry, to talk, and to remember Marshawn together. For this Cowboys squad, it wasn’t just healing, it was unity through heartbreak.
