The Dallas Cowboys are heading into Sunday with more questions than answers. After a wild 40-40 tie, Dallas needs to steady itself against a Jets team still looking for its first win. But there’s no ignoring the obvious, this injury report is brutal. And the headline name is CeeDee Lamb.

Watch What’s Trending Now!

On Friday, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer spelled it out clearly. “We don’t expect Lamb (ankle) to play in Sunday’s game at the Jets.” That was not the update Cowboys Nation wanted.

The wide receiver went down early in that Week 3 loss at Chicago with a high left-ankle sprain, and those injuries usually linger. He already sat out against the Packers last week, but there was at least one positive. By Wednesday, Lamb was back on the field rehabbing, a sign that progress is happening even if a return is not quite there yet.

Still, the 26-year-old’s absence is far from the only concern. Dallas will also be without RG Tyler Booker (ankle), LT Tyler Guyton (concussion), safety Malik Hooker (toe), and WR KaVontae Turpin (foot).

Losing Turpin hurts too, as he was carving out a bigger role with Lamb sidelined. Even worse, both Booker and Guyton leave the offensive line exposed. That’s a nightmare against a Jets defense led by Aaron Glenn. And then come the maybes.

But with Smith trending down, the Cowboys might only have Terrence Steele healthy up front. So, the defense has already been shaky, and if Kneeland and Murray sit, the Cowboys will again need 30-plus points just to escape.

However, the Jets have their own problems, and Aaron Glenn is juggling his own list of injuries.

Aaron Glenn’s injury concerns ahead of Week 5

The Jets are banged up heading into Week 5. Sitting at 0-4, the injury list is a headache for Aaron Glenn. Michael Carter II is already ruled out with a concussion and did not practice. Meanwhile, Kene Nwangwu is questionable with a hamstring issue, and Jermaine Johnson II is also questionable after missing time with an ankle injury. None of those names got practice work this week.

But that is not the entire story.

There are three more names to keep track of: OL John Simpson, CB Jarvis Brownlee, and TE Mason Taylor. Each of them is dealing with something, whether it’s elbow or ankle trouble, but they all managed full practice sessions. That at least gives the Jets a little sigh of relief heading into Sunday. And yes, stat-wise, the Jets are also struggling.

Offensively, they rank 21st in the league with just 304.8 yards per game. Defensively, they sit 20th, allowing 330.3 yards a contest. Their passing game has been flat-out rough, averaging only 160.3 yards through the air, fourth-worst in the NFL.

However, the defense has been steadier, giving up just 199.8 passing yards per game, which puts them at 12th. Still, New York’s total yardage is 115.7 less per game than Dallas usually surrenders. That’s a big gap.

However, on paper, the Jets’ report looks better than the Cowboys’ pile of injuries. Still, don’t be surprised if this matchup turns out closer than the standings imply. Week 5 could challenge both teams in ways their records don’t fully reveal.
