Oh no, not again! Dallas Cowboys fans are on the edge as Dak Prescott sits out practice with ankle soreness. ESPN’s Ed Werder broke the news on Twitter: “Cowboys QB Dak Prescott is experiencing ankle soreness and is being held out of practice today for precautionary reasons.”

Cowboys’ reporter Joseph Hoyt jumped in to clarify—Prescott’s practice absence is just a precaution. His tweet read, “Dak Prescott’s absence from practice today is precautionary. He’s dealing with ankle soreness from yesterday’s joint practice, per the team.” This news sent shivers down the spines of Dallas fans, who’ve seen their franchise QB go through the injury wringer in recent years. “Honestly, I’m getting older,” Prescott said. He’s had a rough go of it since that gruesome ankle injury in 2020. From a shoulder strain to a calf tweak, it seems like the Mississippi champ can’t catch a break.

Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb also has been MIA this camp, holding out for a new contract. But QB Prescott’s been showing up for every practice despite his own ongoing deal drama. While the team’s calling this a precautionary measure, there’s no doubt some anxiety floating around The Star. Big D can’t afford to lose their star signal-caller for any extended period.

Dak Prescott spoke about his ongoing contract extension

Prescott’s all about the field these days, and it’s showing. After a stellar camp and dazzling Monday’s practice, he’s putting on a show despite the off-field drama. Prescott’s contract extension talks are heating up, but he’s keeping his eyes on the prize. “My focus is on the team and preparing for the season,” he said. “The financial aspects will sort themselves out as always.”

Currently in the final year of his four-year, $160M deal, the QB’s set to earn $29M in cash this season—but faces a hefty cap hit of around $55 million. Entering Season #9 with Big D, the three-time Pro Bowl winner’s coming off a crazy 2023—4,516 passing yards, 36 TDs, and a career-high 69.5% completion rate.

While his agent deals with the contract chatter, Prescott’s out here proving he’s still the real deal on the field.
