It started with Jason Kelce pointing out how the world-famous racehorse Secretariat might have been exposed to steroids in its career. Though he didn’t mean to devalue any of Big Red’s achievement’s, Kelce was quick to answer any grievances addressed towards him. At some point, he compared the horse’s situation with Barry Bonds’, who was allegedly “juicing.”

There had been some back and forth with Kelce and his followers on X and at some point, the retired Super Bowl winning center mentioned that he was trying to spread what he though was “common knowledge.” To his surprise, some people didn’t agree to his assessment and accused Kelce of doping.

Jason Kelce has a unique way to deal with the backlash

In post that has been going on for hours, one of his followers accused him of taking steroids. “Ok Jason, when did you start “juicing” and when did you stop? (If you ever did stop)” said the follower, replying to Jason Kelce’s statements about Secretariat the horse being “juiced up to the rafters.”

In his response, the 7x Pro Bowler took a lighthearted, humorous approach as he tried to defend himself. “Hey anybody that saw my time at the Mike’s Seafood run for autism 5K charity event in Sea Isle City can tell I’m clearly not on steroids!” said Kelce in a reply to his follower.

But way before this comment, one of Kelce’s followers replied with, “Therefore all the horses that ran against Secretariat were also steroiding. He also won by enormous margins. I think your also jealous @JasonKelce 😀,” which is what Kelce had been saying in his New Heights podcast all along.

Jason Kelce’s lighthearted comments about a coveted horse became a problem for him as his fans gave him enough backlash that he had to come forward and apologize for the stuff that he said. Here’s what went down on the podcast with Travis Kelce.

The brotherly banter bites them in the behind

The retired Eagles center takes a trip back in time with his brother and claimed that Secretariat the horse was doping. There weren’t any stringent drug checks in place to determine whether any PEDs were given to the horses or not. Moreover, human testing wasn’t also given much of a priority in that time, per Kelce.

“All major speed records in the Triple Crown races are still held by Secretariat, who set them in 1973,” said Kelce and added, “It’s not that wild because Secretariat was juiced to the gills. Secretariat just so happens to be right in the heart of the steroid era. 1973, every NFL player, every baseball player, they were juicing them to the gills. You don’t think Secretariat was juiced to the rafters? Of course, it’s the fastest horse of all time.”

As mentioned earlier, Kelce took to the public with this information only because he thought that people knew about these things, and they wouldn’t be so awestruck debating about it. Things didn’t go according to his plans and a lot of people have fallen in the trap of looking back in hindsight.
