If the Dallas Cowboys really want to have a rebound season in 2025, they will need Dak Prescott. Not just in the flesh, but back healthy and fresh. After tearing his hamstring back in November, Prescott was forced to have surgery due to the severity of his injury. To be exact, he ruptured a partial avulsion of his right hamstring. In layman’s terms, it came off his bone, causing him to miss the final 9 games last season. So, after 5.5 months of rehab, it seems Prescott is finally on his way to a strong return. Amid all the questions on his future, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones had nothing but praise for his $240M QB.

Today, Jerry Jones’ son gave a massive update on Prescott’s much-anticipated return to the gridiron. As per The Athletic’s Jon Machota, Stephen said, “Dak’s doing great. He’s coming along. He’s very thrilled with where he is. And I know the trainers are too. I feel like he’s doing a hell of a job,” Well, Stephen’s update on the Cowboys QB’s comeback comes days after Prescott himself offered some good news on his recovery.

After not being able to take the field for almost 4 months, Prescott was captured throwing footballs at his usual rhythm. He even had nothing but positive things to say about his imminent return. “I’m feeling good. I’m doing more and more. The last two weeks have been huge and progressive for me,” Prescott shared. Now, going by the viral video, Prescott didn’t show any lingering issues on his hamstring. But it did look like he lost some weight, maybe because of the stressful rehab he had to go through.

However, there’s also another thing Stephen added on his Dak Prescott injury update. He apparently said there might be “some limitations” to Prescott’s participation in the offseason programs. Then Stephen also went on to express how he feels it won’t be an issue, “But knowing Dak, he’s a worker. He’s thrilled with where he is.” Judging by Stephen’s positive response to Prescott’s return, surely those trade rumors about him are utter nonsense, right?

Dak Prescott’s laughable trade interest

Just a day away from April fool, Bruce Drennan, termed by SI.com as a “longtime Cleveland Sports broadcaster,” tried to throw every one of us from our chair. He cited that “a pretty darn good source within the Browns organization” told him “the Browns are negotiating as we speak with the Dallas Cowboys for a trade for Dak Prescott.” Well, within days of this over-the-top rumor. NFL Network’s Jane Slater was quick to call it fake news, citing her reliable sources.

“I run it all down when working this beat and the Dallas Cowboys are not working on trading Dak to the Browns. In fact, texts with two sources tell me fake news and absolutely not before this gets any sort of wheels,” Slater wrote on X, adding a gif indicating her putting cold water on any Dak Prescott rumors. Like a year after signing the NFL’s biggest QB contract that makes him $231M in guarantees, surely, the Cowboys are not planning to move on from him anytime soon. And to make things clearer. Prescott doesn’t have any trade clause in his contract. Also, Prescott’s contract has a cap number that stands at $52.974M.

Trading him would mean the Cowboys taking a $97.3M cap hit in 2025. So, there’s your answer. It’s not happening. Period. Finito. End of discussions. The only thing that could happen is that Prescott will come back healthy. And probably live up to his price tag in 2025.
