Another week, another disappointment for the New York Jets. After going 0-4 this season, their latest loss to the Miami Dolphins, the team needs to figure out their blunders. Against the Dolphins, the Jets’ blunders piled up. They turned it over three times and fumbled when it mattered the most. As per ‘Next Gen Stats’, the team lost -28.6% in net win probability across three fumbles in their 21-27 loss. But that’s not where it ends.

The Jets committed a significant number of penalties: 13 penalties for 101 yards, as compared to Miami’s 6 penalties for 40 yards. No wonder HC Aaron Glenn was so upset. “We gotta figure it out,” he said during the post-game press conference. “And that’s the part I’m saying that’s disappointing.

“Because man, we go through certain times where we do a hell of a job, especially with the pre-snap penalties, and then man, we just revert back and listen, I know that you can’t fix things in a couple of weeks and things like that, but we have to be better than that. And I know we can be better than that.”

But it’s not about just one game. There’s a reason everyone is worried about the NY Jets conceding penalties. In all four games so far, they have lost a good number of yards. 32 penalties for 291 yards, to be exact.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the Jets’ penalties and the yards they lost until Week 4:

Game Total penalties (Jets)Yards lost
Steelers vs Jets774
Bills vs Jets535
Buccaneers vs Jets781
Dolphins vs Jets13101

Obviously, the losses are piling up, but that’s not unusual for the team. They were 0-4 back in 2020, too. And Glenn has now found himself in a fraternity of Jets coaches who have faced similar struggles previously. He joins Adams Gase (2019) and Lou Holtz (1976) as the only coaches who started their job at the Jets office with four consecutive losses. That’s a list Glenn would not be proud of being on.

Moving forward, he might have a bigger issue to fix: discipline

The Jets were one of the most penalized teams last season (137 penalties). In fact, in five of those games, they had 10-plus penalties. Owing to that, the new HC had already issued a warning before the 2025 season commenced. “You cannot win games in this league with an undisciplined team, so all the penalties that we had last year, we’re knocking those things out.”

Clearly, there is a lot more work to be done.

Though the HC opined they weren’t the ‘same old Jets’ after last week’s loss, it doesn’t look like they have come up with anything new to anyone who has followed them over the last decade. Perhaps Aaron Glenn knows this, too.

Aaron Glenn couldn’t control his anger after the latest loss

The players witnessed his anger firsthand. ESPN reporter Rich Cimini revealed that he heard voices coming out of the Jets locker room. It was Aaron Glenn screaming at his players. The reporter tweeted, “Hearing loud voice through the wall of the Jets’ locker room as we sit in the press room: Sounds like an angry Aaron Glenn screaming at the team. And he has a right to be pissed. #Jets

Justin Fields and his men never looked in a solid position to win the game. While the Dolphins piled up play after play, the Jets trailed them 3-10 at halftime. Even after Tyreek Hill got injured and left the field, Fields could not mount his offense. His own performance was disappointing.

Fields only recorded 20 of 27 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown. On the other hand, Tua Tagovailoa scored two TDs and completed 17 of 25 for 177 yards. That’s not where it ends. The Dolphins’ QB is 7-0 against the Jets, keeping him undefeated against his divisional rival.

Now, the Jets can only hope for a quick turnaround. Will the NY Jets take off next week or stand still? The Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys is a high-stakes matchup. The game will happen on October 5 at MetLife Stadium.
