The Los Angeles Chargers suffered a devastating blow playing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 11. While the team’s entire offensive lineup is under major criticism, head coach Jim Harbaugh refrained from publicly criticizing the individual performances of the players, including guard Mekhi Becton, who had recently returned from injury.

Despite deciding to bench Mekhi Becton in the third quarter, Jim Harbaugh declined to comment on Becton’s performance this season during a post-game media session.

“Not going to do that,” he said.“Not going to break my own rule of going through and breaking down specific plays or a specific player’s game or play, let alone a season.”

Mekhi Becton signed with the Los Angeles Chargers this season. Although it appeared to be a strong move, his season has largely been marked by several injuries. He suffered a concussion in Week 3 and another hand injury in Week 5. This continued with a knee injury in Week 8, owing to which he missed the game in Week 9.

Despite his stature, the 6’7″ guard hasn’t been able to contribute strongly to the team’s offense, which resulted in their major blow against the Jaguars.

The Chargers did not seem to have any control over the game, as they conceded a 35-6 loss against the Jaguars. Their offense struggled to gain yards, resulting in the game ending without a single touchdown from them. So, what does the coach think about his team’s overall performance?

Jim Harbaugh reflects on the Chargers’ poor performance against the Jaguars

Owing to Jim Harbaugh’s successful history, the Chargers’ loss against the Jaguars came as a major surprise. In fact, 35-6 is the biggest loss the team has conceded under him. They scored the opening points of the game, coming from a 41-yard field goal from Cameron Dicker. However, this was soon countered by a touchdown from the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chargers managed to respond with another field goal. However, those 6 points were the only ones they scored in the entire game. The 3rd and 4th quarters only saw a complete domination from the Jaguars.

Harbaugh understandably did not appreciate the team’s performance. “We just weren’t doing anything well offensively. We weren’t running the ball well. We weren’t protecting,” Harbaugh said, assessing the game. “We weren’t getting open. Defensively, same. We weren’t stopping the run. We were loose in coverage. I mean, go through every phase, and we got beat every which way you could get beat.”

While Jim Harbaugh continues to keep his philosophy of not calling out his players publicly, the Chargers need to self-assess their performance. The major issue lies with the OL. They only gained 135 yards throughout the game, compared to 345 from the Jaguars. Harbaugh’s roster will be put to the test again as they prepare to face the Las Vegas Raiders after their bye week.
