It’s time for the underdogs to shine and the NFL knows it. Tommy DeVito took the Giants to new heights with a 3-game win streak. Along with DeVito, Sean Stellato is getting his fair share of limelight. Alas, he is the one responsible for getting DeVito a chance to play for the Giants.

Stellato came to NFL’s The Season With Peter Schrager and told how a young quarterback from Illinois got the spot in the Giants and humbled everyone in a game against the Green Bay Packers. An 80% pass completion rate in a single game is something to be wary of when you’re fighting a team on the verge of losing everything this season.

The lore of Tommy DeVito and Sean Stellato

After the game, the internet is flooded with “finger purse” memes about the Giants QB and his agent. Tommy DeVito was undrafted till Day Three of the draft, but Stellato believed in him and did everything he could to get him in the Giants. Schrager asked Stellato about the disappointment of being undrafted and doing a complete 360.

Stellato mentioned that this decision resulted from risk evaluation and playing the “long game.” “He showed all 32 GMs that morning that you know what, I’m the real guy; I’m confident, what I did in Illinois is just something that I’m going to continue to evolve off of,” said Stellato of DeVito. The agent said how he had difficulty convincing the QB’s father to let him join the team.

The Commanders also had a shot at DeVito, but unfortunately, that ship sailed. There were a lot of things that led to the QB’s choice of going with the Giants. Stellato’s connections in New York, especially with Brian Daboll and his QB coaching skills, were some of the main reasons behind this cascade. Also, the thought of a local boy making huge money was alluring as well.

These pieces of the puzzle went together, and per Stellato, “the stars kind of aligned” and gave birth to a whole new Giants team.

Is this the resurgence of the Giants?

Things perhaps are turning around for this New York team. DeVito did little on paper apart from just completing his passes without getting sacked or intercepted. It’s a tremendous deal to be a rookie and to have played a handful of games and displayed such a performance. His 8-yard TD pass to Isaiah Hodgins came in the third quarter when the Giants needed it the most.

He completed 17 out of 21 passes for 158 yards made and became the star of the MetLife Stadium overnight. He ran for 71 yards in the MNF game. Saquon Barkley fumbled the ball in the last quarter and the Giants paid the price for it. However, DeVito wet 4-for-4 with 1:33 left on the clock and won the game with the skin of his teeth.
