Quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers suffered an embarrassing 25-10 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The offensive line struggled badly, as the team managed just 221 total yards. 65 of which came on their final drive when the game was already gone. It couldn’t have gotten any worse. The veteran quarterback also didn’t perform at his best on the field. After the game, he didn’t hesitate to point out the issues.

“We were bad on third down,” he admitted to the mistakes during the press conference.
“I was just a little bit off. You know, I missed DK (Metcalf) early. It could have been a big play, a little high to Jonnu (Smith).”

He seemed to refer to his missed deep throw to Metcalf on the second drive. This could have been a touchdown. Early in the second quarter, Rodgers’ high throw to tight end Jonnu Smith was initially ruled a catch but later overturned after review.
“But, yeah, we didn’t run the ball super effectively in the first half. I missed, obviously, some throws for sure,” he said.
The QB completed only 50% of his passes.

The Chargers were able to slow down the QB for much of the time until he connected for a touchdown. Rodgers completed 16-of-31 for 161 yards, one touchdown, and threw two interceptions. But he was sacked three times during the game. He finished with an EPA per play of -0.50, per RBSDM Stats.
“I didn’t play very good at all,” he admitted. Linebacker T. J. Watt also pointed out the issue with the Steelers’ offense.
“Inconsistent as it could be. Too much up and down, not enough Steeler football. We can’t continue to live and die by the turnovers as a defense; we need to get off the field. We need to stop the run. Critical third downs, we need to do a better job of. No excuse for it. We need to play better.”

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also addressed the issues. “We stunk it up tonight,” he said. “We’ll be back.”
If there’s one thing coach Tomlin didn’t want to admit, it was seemingly his quarterback’s mistakes. When a reporter brought up the question, Tomlin responded with a cold stare.
“How would you? Next,” he said.

But the internet hasn’t stopped talking. With just two months left before Rodgers turns 42, it wasn’t surprising that his age became a talking point once again.
Aaron Rodgers’ performance draws harsh words from Emmanuel Acho
After what seemed to be Rodgers’ worst performance of the season, former football player Emmanuel Acho didn’t mince his words. He said that the current version of what we saw on the field was poles apart from the earlier version, the one that won four NFL MVP titles.
“Aaron Rodgers being an embarrassment to the old Aaron Rodgers,” he said.
“(He) is still a good NFL quarterback, but Aaron Rodgers is supposed to play the game to win Super Bowls. He’s not supposed to play the game to be 500. He’s not supposed to play the game to be mediocre.”
Under Tomlin’s leadership, Rodgers helped the Steelers emerge as the top team in the AFC North with a 5-4 record in the first nine games. He has made a strong rebound from his worst statistical seasons. Rodgers has thrown for 1,853 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions so far in the season.
However, Acho argued that a younger Rodgers used to elevate the offense, defense, and every player around him. But the scene is different for the 41-year-old now. Given his age, the change seems understandable, yet Rodgers will inevitably continue to be compared to his younger self.
But there’s still plenty of time left on his one-year, $13.6 million deal with the Steelers for him to turn things around and help the team compete for a Super Bowl. They’ve lost three of their last four home games, while the Ravens linger just one game behind Rodgers and Co.
Next up, the Steelers will have a chance to redeem themselves against the Bengals at home on Sunday afternoon.
