Just yesterday, on November 13, we reported that Disney CFO Hugh F. Johnston wanted to end the scuffle between the two networking giants. He claimed that they were ready to go as long as YouTube TV wanted to. Now, we have a positive update for the NFL legend JJ Watt and 10 million struggling Americans, as the dispute has ended.

Watt was leading the crusade about the effects it had on football fans. They missed the MNF games in Week 9 and Week 10. More than just games, it was the frustration as both parties kept working towards a deal but failed to reach it.

“So we’re just not watching Monday Night Football huh? I’m not buying another streaming subscription…” JJ Watt tweeted on November 4.

Many people echoed Watt’s sentiments. T10 million fans who were subscribed to Disney said they were also tired of login screens, missing channels, and random errors. The blackout hit more than the NFL. YouTube TV also lost College GameDay and several major college football games. Fans missed some of the biggest matchups of the weekend. JJ Watt later said he does have a subscription, but it only lets him watch Espanyol soccer on ESPN+.

YouTube TV even gave subscribers a $20 credit after the second weekend of missed games. Watt said he didn’t care about the money. He said he only wanted to watch football. He complained about the frustrating issue on The Pat McAfee Show.

“It’s football. We need it,” he said.

However, the companies were working to reach a solution. When they finally did, it rejoiced many fans.

YouTube TV and Disney end JJ Watt’s problems

The Athletic’s reporter, Andrew Marchand, reported on November 14 that YouTube TV has reached an agreement with Disney and has started to restore Monday Night Football and other programs. ESPN also announced that both parties have reached a multi-year agreement to restore the full suite of networks and stations, including ABC and ESPN.

The issue was stuck on the financial part. Disney wanted a fair price for its channels. YouTube TV called it a high price and said it would force them to raise subscription costs again. People close to the talks said both sides are close to a deal. But one big issue remained. The fee for Disney’s non-sports channels like Freeform, FX, and National Geographic. FCC Chair Brendan Carr told both companies to settle the dispute. He said JJ Watt and millions of customers deserve the programming they paid for.

Disney’s stock fell nearly 8% on November 13, losing about $16 billion in market value. The YouTube TV dispute hurt the stock, but so did two other things. Disney missed its earnings goals, and the broader market also went down that day.

The issue became so big that even Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Disney CEO Bob Iger sat down at the negotiation table. Other Disney leaders, like Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and ESPN chair Jimmy Pitaro, also joined the talks. After a lot of back and forth, both parties have now reached a deal.

For millions of football fans across America, the issues showed a bigger threat. Networking companies could deprive them of the fun they wait for. For now, the week 11 MNF between the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders will be streamed. That’s news of big happiness for all of them.
