In a recent interview, the Demaryius Thomas Team MVP Award winner, Pat Surtain II, reveals the commonalities between Nick Saban and Sean Payton. Taking to the X handle, Jim Rome posted a clip from the interview, with the caption, “They really know how to get their players dialed in, locked in, and ready to go.”

When posed with the question “Are there any similarities between Sean Payton and Nick Saban?,” Surtain remarks on their ethics of winning. Having trained under the best coaches, his realization helped him appreciate both Saban and Payton. “When you got two guys with that caliber, and they understand what it takes to win with that culture, the stage will be set…,” Surtain remarked. He concluded with the acknowledgment that they know “how to bring a team together and how to win.”

The 72-year-old trained Patrick at Alabama to “compete against the best of the best.”

Despite his well-rounded training in Alabama, Surtain opined that he still needed a boost of confidence, and that’s where Sean Payton came in.

Sean Payton, a seasoned NFL coach, with an experience of 34 years, beginning his tenure as head coach of the Denver Broncos on February 3, 2023. His 15-year stint with the New Orleans Saints, even garnered Super Bowl victory in 2009.

Talking about Payton, Surtain was excited about his position as head coach. “His resume speaks for itself. I can’t wait to get to work with him. I think he’s going to provide the tools necessary for us to have a winning culture in the organization,” the CB opined.

Those are the qualities you look for in a coach,” drawing a parallel between Nick Saban and Payton.
