After riding out an unexpected football scuffle last weekend, Cam Newton perhaps deserves another MVP. Acknowledging an innate tendency to land in the eye of the tornado, the former NFL quarterback revealed his thoughts on his recent situation to NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal. With this came a disclosure, as the player strongly believes that considering his heated move, he “could be in jail.”

The former Carolina Panthers quarterback recently made a cameo on “The Big Podcast with Shaq”.  As the conversation turned toward the incident, Newton proudly reiterated his Atlanta roots, referencing the norms of the city and how it shaped his personality, “I’m the type of person who when I feel triggered, I react. It’s not come on Shaq, let’s go get him. I’m not that person. You say something to me and I go and I don’t think and that’s the issue,” said Cam Newton.

With this, the vulnerability beneath the athlete’s staunch exterior gets exposed. The trigger response, however, follows a fear of legal repercussions, as Newton confessed, “You just want to hang out with somebody [who is] going to say something triggering to you and it just takes one time and  it turns ugly, because I could be I could be in jail, somebody filing a law.” This takes us back to the heated exchange that took place on February 25.

The video that went viral involved Newton at a youth football tournament in Atlanta. As per the reports placed by the Atlanta Police Department (APD), the scuffle transpired during a 7v7 All-Star football tournament that was taking place at the B.E.S.T Academy. It has been reported that the altercation was initiated from Newton’s end.

It was the former NFL player who taunted two men, TJ Brown and Steph Brown from TopShelf Performance. The duo had previously worked for Newton’s football program as well. It has been found that the two coaches had been the target for Newton’s taunt during an ongoing game. They eventually left the field in search of Newton which ultimately led to a physical confrontation. 

With this, Cam Newton, the founder of C1N, an organization that supports young athletes by helping them garner football skills through 7v7 tournaments, has been caught in a negative light. As fans reflect on his words from the latest interview, it serves as a reminder of the pressures that accompany a life that is lived in the public eye.
