Only real ones know the importance of healthy, friendly banters… But when it’s like Deion Sanders and Michael Strahan‘s bond, it always makes us think: Are we even doing it right? Even though they’ve never shared the field, they vibe with each other. And that’s important—vibing. We are always treading between vibing, brutal, and stepping out of the line. Mind you, it can go wrong easily. But, phew, it didn’t go wrong for Coach Prime.

At this point, nothing’s going wrong for him… Now, on the latest episode of Good Morning America, Strahan was simply reminiscing a ‘throwback’ moment, recalling how he’s “got a picture from the pro bowl, where Deion’s got a durag on.” You’d think Deion would smile or say something like: ‘Ah! What a time…’ But that wouldn’t have cut it for Prime Time, right? Wrong.

Deion quickly responded with a brutal: “You were a little heavy at the time…” Nah, that was uncalled for. He did not have to do Strahan like that. The whole studio burst out in laughter. Oh, it wasn’t the pretty ones.

It was the kind that made you feel uneasy like someone had ousted you. Not only that, but they exposed you on Live TV. And Strahan’s lip bite… Staring right into the camera lens was enough of a reaction to explain the whole story. Ba dum tss!

But it’s all fun and games, like we said. Both were legendary back then. Michael Strahan still holds the most sacks (22.5) recorded in a single season (umm, just don’t remind Mark Gastineau about it, it’s better this way)… And Deion’s living now. Respect? Oh, that’s through the roof.

I mean, let’s not forget when Strahan recently came to Deion’s aid in the online war of words stating facts. Deion was getting hate. You get to the point where you are doing the job you know, like the back of your hand, you are bound to receive some backlash. Well, while concerns about the CU Buffs’ mass off-loading seem real (coupled with a 9-4 record), we are talking about Coach Prime, after all.

I mean, look at the Chiefs, for instance. The officials hand them every victory… Ahem… Moving on, so, Strahan responded: Travis Hunter became the first HBCU player to win the Heisman hours after Jackson State won its first HBCU national title, which is months before Shadeur will likely be the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Remember when Deion Sanders ruined college football?”

So, while Deion might have sounded like a body-shamer… Fret not. There’s no bad blood there. Michael Strahan knows that and by that point, the whole GMA crew got acquainted with their banter.

Michael Strahan 1-1 Deion Sanders

Sometimes, a little back-and-forth among friends is all in good fun—until someone brings out a foot massager. Yeah, you read that right. When Michael Strahan and the GMA crew pranked Deion Sanders with one, it was hard not to laugh, even if it came with a toe-twisting backstory.

Deion was in his Prime Time of humor… So, he was giving it and taking it in the same spirit as he quipped: “I think I’m being set up. I think Michael Strahan has got something to do with this because I’ve only got 8 toes.” In case you missed it, Coach Prime isn’t joking. He had two toes amputated in 2021 after a brutal battle with blood clots—a fight that’s included 12 surgeries and more grit than a defensive line at fourth-and-goal.

But if you think Sanders is sitting around sulking, you don’t know Prime. He tackles his challenges head-on, blending humor with honesty, like when he said, “They got a right blinker on them; they’re turning right.” Who else could make a serious health issue sound like a playbook adjustment?

Even his surgeon couldn’t escape Sanders’ sharp wit. When asked, “How attached to the toes is he?” Deion shot back, “If they take these, I’m wearing a size 4!” That’s Prime for you—turning setbacks into punchlines. And let’s not forget Travis Hunter, his two-way star at Colorado, chiming in with his own antics, like borrowing sneakers from Sanders’ office. The playful banter shows the tight-knit bond between coach and player, built on trust and, apparently, a shared love of pranks.

Through all the jokes, there’s no ignoring the resilience Sanders embodies. His openness about his health struggles is a reminder that even the toughest coaches face battles off the field. And it’s because of that openness he was OK. He did not mind Strahan and Co.’s joke.
