Pat McAfee has made a name for himself in whatever he has put his hand in. Since he retired from the NFL, the former punter has made millions as a sports analyst. His unfiltered analysis is what makes him a fan favorite. In yet another piece of masterful analysis, McAfee revealed a weapon worth millions that the NBA players have and is absent in the NFL.

Player salary in the NFL is in the limelight with the never-ending Lamar Jackson saga this offseason. According to McAfee, NBA players do one thing differently that helps them avoid such situations altogether. But what exactly is it?

Pat McAfee says that the only weapon that makes millions more for NBA players than their NFL counterparts is the power to hold out. According to him, holdouts aren’t possible in the NFL because there are too many guys ready to replace the ones doing it. For the NBA, that is not the case.

“NBA, it’s like being chosen like the singers, like (the players can say) we’re just not. How many? 15 guys. The league is f*cked,” McAfee said on the ‘Pat McAfee Show’.

He then illustrated it in an imaginary scenario where the NBPA can consult the players to know how much time they can hold out.

“Some guys would be like I’m good for 10 years, some guys are like I’m good for five years. Some guys are like hey man I’ve been living, I’ve been buying. I’m good for a year and a half. So then the NBPA knows okay we’ve got a year and a half. We can hold out. The NBA can’t. So they’re gonna put out a product that’s probably going to disappoint everybody. And they know that. What a weapon that is,” McAfee illustrated.

Lamar Jackson is at loggerheads with the Baltimore Ravens for a contract extension. If anyone applies McAfee’s principle on the issue, the QB has little power in front of the league and the owners. But how did it come to this?

The Lamar Jackson situation

The problems for Lamar Jackson started when he sat down with the Ravens to discuss an extension. Both parties are yet to agree on the guaranteed portion of the contract. While earlier reports claimed that the QB wants a fully guaranteed contract, later reports said that it wasn’t the case. He may just want a higher position as guaranteed than what the Ravens offered him.

Jackson later revealed that he had rejected a contract offer with $133 million in guarantees. As of now, the QB has asked for a trade away from the franchise he has been a star at for the last five years.
