Jim Harbaugh left the Wolverines after leading them to their first National Championship since 1997. But according to the 60-year-old, the NFL offers more lucrative rewards than college football. For someone like him who’s always aiming to go higher and keep progressing, the NFL seemed like the ultimate goal. 

Even though he’s a successful HC in Michigan, Jim Harbaugh is aware that the success came with collective efforts and some of his former coaching staff in Michigan seemed to shine brighter than the rest. After becoming the Los Angeles Chargers’ HC, he reportedly took Jesse Minter from Sherrone Moore with him to the NFL. Speculations are arising that he might be looking for more Michigan coaches to join him which might give Moore a hard time in his first season as Michigan HC. 

Jim Harbaugh delivers the raw truth on why he left Michigan for the Chargers

In a recent X update by the NFL on CBS, Chargers’ new HC Jim Harbaugh expressed his thoughts on leaving the Michigan Wolverines for the NFL. He said in an interview with CBS’ pre-game show ahead of the Baltimore Ravens’ AFC championship game matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs at M&T Bank Stadium, “I love Michigan, but I love the NFL too. There’s no Lombardi Trophy in college football.” It looks like there are no regrets and he’s happy with the choice he made. 

Jim Harbaugh also admitted that he already met with the Chargers’ star QB Justin Fields and confessed that he was “a little starstruck” on meeting him. He also detailed how his coaching at the Chargers is going to be as he said, “We work together, we win together.” He also added, “The hard work, the sacrifice, the pressure. Why would anyone want to put themselves through that? Because the rewards are so darn good.”

Sherrone Moore is trying to retain the best Michigan coaches 

It’s Sherrone Moore’s first season as the HC with the Wolverines, although it’s not his first experience. He took Harbaugh’s spot when he was under the two 3-game suspensions last season. But it looks like the roster is undergoing changes that could change the status of the Michigan we knew at the National Championship game. Minter is gone from Michigan and there’s been rumors that Harbaugh might steal Director of Strength and Conditioning Ben Herbert from Moore.

Moore, however, slammed the rumors with Michigan insider reporting that the HC “is “very” encouraged Michigan will retain strength coach Ben Herbert.” This better be the case because Michigan not only lost their former HC, but they’re also losing star players like JJ McCarthy and Blake Corum to the NFL. As for Harbaugh, we can’t underestimate his decision. After all, he left college football on a successful note and only time will tell if the success he had in college football will follow him to the NFL.
