With Jim Harbaugh officially joining the NFL as the Los Angeles Chargers HC, ugly things that happened behind the scenes now surface. Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel, UM President Santa Ono, and regent Jordan Acker have fallen under scrutiny as strong voices come up against their ‘professional blunder’. 

Harbaugh indeed has strong ties with Michigan both as a college football player for four seasons and as a head coach for nine seasons. But the sign-stealing allegation that led to him sitting out the final three games of the regular season still seems to be striking a flat note with the above-mentioned Michigan officials who didn’t comply with Harbaugh’s immunity proposal until it was too late. Things took a sharp turn as proposals were unmet and feelings were hurt.  

Just over a week ago, reports revealed that Jim Harbaugh made a contract proposal to Michigan seeking immunity. The deal sought to grant him immunity from getting fired no matter the findings concerning the ongoing NCAA investigations due to the sign-stealing allegations. Sources revealed that the new Chargers HC desired language in his contract that would curb AD Warde Manuel from firing him. According to a recent Twitter post by James Yoder, the ‘Michigan villains,’ all should resign based on delayed negotiations with Michigan’s officials. 

Sources reported to The Detroit News that Michigan only came to terms with their former HC’s proposal in the 11th hour on Wednesday afternoon. But by then, it was too late to revert his decision as the 60-year-old was already on the verge of committing to the Chargers. So now, many fans are proposing that the Michigan officials might have intentionally delayed their verdict because they didn’t want to agree to Harbaugh’s immunity proposal.  

What’s next for Jim Harbaugh and Michigan

Despite the lucrative contract deal from the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh might have remained in Michigan, had his proposal been met in time. But now that the coach has officially signed with the Chargers, he would be working hard for the upcoming NFL draft and off-season to prepare for Super Bowl 59 and his NFL comeback.
