With the Los Angeles Chargers’ third pick, Jim Harbaugh secured one of his own defensive players. With their first No. 5 pick, they’ve landed Notre Dame OT Joe Alt, a pick which, according to several outlets, could’ve been better. Nonetheless, Harbaugh and new GM Joe Ortiz must have plans for the 21-year-old unanimous All-American up their sleeves.

With their second pick, the Chargers drafted Georgia WR Ladd McConkey at No. 34 after a trade up to the second round. This seems like a lucrative haul as McConkey entered the 2024 NFL Draft with the fourth-highest yards per route run (3.26) among receiver prospects. As they picked their third player, Jim Harbaugh had to painfully watch some of his best players from Michigan get taken.

Jim Harbaugh loses three Michigan players in consecutive selections

Jim Harbaugh is about building a familiar roster with tried-and-true players with a winning attitude and ability. In a glorious moment for the former Michigan HC at the 2024 NFL Draft, he lands one of his former star players, linebacker Junior Colson, with the Chargers’ No. 69 pick. But is this valuable haul enough to counter the three consecutive losses of some of Michigan’s best players?

Harbaugh lost his highly touted RB Black Corum to the Los Angeles Rams as the No. 83 to foster their roster. Up next, the Pittsburgh Steelers stole 22-year-old WR Roman Wilson with their 84th pick. And just when Harbaugh thought he had more time to pick, the Cleveland Browns picked his Michigan player, unanimous All-American guard Zak Zinter, as the No. 85 pick. We don’t know the Chargers’ plans with their next pick at No. 105. Stay tuned with the Bolts to see what will unravel further in the draft.

Michigan Wolverines 2024 NFL draft prospects

The Michigan Wolverines had a combined 13 players entering this year’s draft. QB J.J. McCarthy, who led the Wolverines to the National Championship, was the first player off the board as the Minnesota Vikings traded up to draft him at No. 10. The second Michigan player to get drafted was Harbaugh’s poster boy DT Kris Jenkins, who was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 49, followed by Mike Sainristil at No. 50 by the Washington Commanders

Jim Harbaugh drafted his own player, Colson, who is the fourth Michigan player to get drafted. After him, Corum, Wilson, and Zinter were consecutively drafted, leaving six players as potential third-round picks. The remaining players include WR Cornelius Johnson, CB Drake Nugent, LB Michael Barrett, TE AJ Barber, G Trevor Keegan, and LB Braiden McGregor. Hopefully, they’ll find their NFL homes on Night 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft.
