With Coach Prime Deion Sanders on book tours and TV appearances, all eyes are on the Colorado Buffaloes now. The team looks quite ready to kick off their spring practice sessions. The Buffs will now hit the field for a week before Spring Break from March 25-31, returning on April 1 to continue their training. Meanwhile, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur isn’t wasting any time. 

Shurmur is already laying down the “mission” for his revamped offense, including offensive tackle Jordan Seaton and a cohort of new faces brought in via the transfer portal. Shurmur’s first year as CU’s offensive coordinator, coupled with a fresh influx of offensive talent, has Boulder excitedly buzzing. There is more to go for the revamped Buffs offense as they get a stern message from their OC.

Coach Prime & Co. motivate the Buffs ahead of spring practice

The Coach Prime era at Colorado kicks off with a crucial spring training session. While the roster will see some changes even after spring, the starting positions remain open until August. This period is vital for the team to build the foundation. A new video from Well Off Media offers a glimpse into the action. Deion Sanders delivers his signature motivational speeches and passes the torch to Buffs’ offensive coordinator Shurmur. “Tomorrow, as we put an offense together, guys, we have a mission. And our mission, and you’ll see on the board, is for us, physically, aggressively, and collectively, to possess and advance the ball. That’s what we’re trying to do,” Shurmur said.

He also emphasized the importance of consistent training to the Buffs. “So every time we take the field, we may get 8, we may get 12. It doesn’t matter how many drives a game we get, that’s our mission. Now everything we do in the locker room, the training room, the meal room, the wait room, the meeting room, and on the practice field should train us to accomplish our mission,” he added. It looks like Shurmur specifically targets the offensive line, including the key player Jordan Seaton. This shows the “new offensive” line is ready to take its role in fulfilling the team’s offensive goals.

Shurmur and Seaton bring hope to the Buffs’ offense

The sting of a disastrous offensive line in 2023, with a record of 56 sacks, hasn’t fazed the Colorado Buffaloes. Instead, Deion Sanders has made it a key area to focus on this offseason. Five seasoned offensive linemen have been added through the transfer portal, bolstering the unit alongside the prized five-star recruit Jordan Seaton. Seaton, the highest-rated offensive lineman, currently ranks 25th overall in the Rivals 2024 class. He brings a much-needed edge to the revamped offensive unit. However, he is not alone.

CU has also revamped its coaching staff, with Pat Shurmur stepping in as the new offensive coordinator. Shurmur boasts over 30 years of NFL coaching experience, most recently serving as the offensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos from 2020-’21. Over the years, Shurmur has made eight playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance. It looks like Sanders has bulked up the Buffs offensive line through new hires.
