And the ‘ Transfer portal king’ strikes again! Deion Sanders already set the record for the most transfer commits this season, and he keeps on increasing the number. Right from when OT Jordan Seaton made waves in the whole of college football, to players like Antony Hankerson, Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan, and Van Wells committing to Oregon State, CU Buffs were all over the headlines.

Safe to say, Oregon State has emerged as a top choice along Colorado de-commits, costing a bit too much to Deion Sanders and Co. To soothe the situation for the Buffs, Oklahoma cornerback McKinney made an announcement.

On Sunday evening, former Oklahoma CB DJ McKinney declared his decision to commit to the Colorado Buffs, emphasizing his wish to play under head coach Deion Sanders. Being the 19th sign for Deion Sanders and Co., McKinney would have to prove himself against one of the, if not the, best CB in the whole of NCAA, Travis Hunter, and the 2023 five-star recruit Cormani McClain. However, he might not have to fuss much about it as he can brag about his two-year stats.

Even though the Cowboys red shirt wasn’t the starter for the team during the past season, he displayed extraordinary performance by leading the cornerbacks in tackles, with a whopping 38 tackles in 14 games. Along with assisting the team to win the Texas Bowl with 31-23 against the Texas A&M, he also recorded 596 snaps. Being one of the top leading defensive backs across the franchise, McKinney has a total of three years of eligibility left, an important addition to the already impressive transfer rooster at CU.

Other important updates in the Buffs transfer portal

McKinney would be the second defensive back to join the transfer commit among the 19 signed players, the first one being Preston Hodge, a former Liberty starter. On the offensive front, former Connecticut player Yakiri Walker, former Destin Wade from Kentucky, Tyler Johnson from Houston, and Chidozie Nwanko from Houston would be on the lookout.

Safe to say, each of these prodigies is preparing their mindset to play under a coach that wants only the best performance from his players. Israel Solomon, for instance, from the IMG academy, posted about his early morning drills with his father, an effort that Sanders acknowledged. Who is to blame? All the recruits have big shoes to fill, along with the challenge of proving CU Buffs after last season’s records. Nevertheless, it will be an adrenaline-rushing season, with a lot at stake for CU, for all the recruits and existing players.
