The recent DNVR Buffs podcast unveiled a notable omission in the Buffaloes roster. The once-promising wide receiver, Tarvarish Dawson has been confirmed to have cut ties with Colorado. As highlighted by Jake and Andre, Dawson’s name will not be present in the Spring Football roster of Deion Sanders’ program.

Before the official announcement, Dawson had left Buffs’ fans exposed to ambiguity by leaving a cryptic message that added to an air of mystery behind his not being a part of the squad. In the meanwhile, there prevails huge competition in the wide receiver position at Colorado.

Dawson’s absence in the Buffs’ spring roster

The announcement of Dawson not being able to make it through Coach Prime’s Spring roster has sent shockwaves. Having played seven games in 2023, in the podcast, the hosts shed light on his promising performance. Jake Schwanitz commented about the wide receiver,  “He had a great game in Nebraska, scored a touchdown but kind of disappeared later in the year. Has great speed obviously and is a certified deep threat and we saw that play out. But we have a lot of speedy fast wide receivers including a great transfer that we brought in.”

Rated as a three-star prospect in the transfer portal, Dawson evolved as one of the stars of CU’s 36-14 rout of Nebraska back in September. His successful stint in Colorado included registering 14 receptions for 124 receiving yards. Owing to his scores, Deion Sanders channeled immense confidence towards Dawson. However, despite initial support, challenges may have arisen for the player who then came up with a cryptic post.

New faces in Colorado’s roster

Dawson bared his emotions through a Twitter post where he expressed his frustration stating, “It seems like no matter how hard I work or try, things don’t go as planned.” It goes back to the fact that even though the wide receiver succeeded in making an impact in the first half, he fell short of expectations in the other half. Meanwhile, fierce competition has plagued Buffaloes in the wide receiver position.

There has been an influx of new talent and Deion Sanders’ strategy to bring in new faces led to the intensification of competition. The latest squad witnessed the entry of four-star wide receiver commit Drelon Miller. Other than Miller, the other transfers comprise Terrell Simmons Jr., Will Sheppard, and Cordale Russell. Special mention must go to LaJohntay Wester who has made his way from Florida Atlantic Owls to fulfill Sanders’ approach in bolstering the receiving corps. 

While Dawson’s journey initially met the expectations of the Buffaloes’ roster, the new players set the stage for a competitive environment. Being under emotional turmoil and now failing to place himself in the Spring roster confirms the fact that the Buffaloes are gearing up for a transformative season.
