Caleb Williams and Drake Maye’s comparison

As the USC Trojans face their first defeat against Notre Dame in Week 7, there have been a lot of opinions and comparisons. Reddit is stirring an interesting discussion on how Drake Maye is a potential rival to Caleb Williams as the top prospect. A user hit Caleb Williams after his ‘generational’ branding, saying, “Caleb Williams getting the ‘generational talent’ mark just seems strange to me.

Comparisons are drawn to NFL legend Patrick Mahomes, where Caleb Williams possesses Mahomes’ “improvisational abilities” but lacks his skills as a “pocket passer” as per the last Notre Dame game. The comparison goes further to Drake Maye and Caleb, who both “have great arm length,” “good at improvising,” “capable rushers,” and “hold the ball too long.”

But as to why Drake Maye takes the upper hand is that he has a “better build for a QB” than Caleb Williams. He is relatively more “accurate at all levels” and a “better pocket passer.” The players’ personalities were also taken into account, where Drake Maye possesses a “great personality” while “Caleb has attitude issues.”

Drake Maye is establishing himself as a promising NFL prospect playing as a quarterback for North Carolina. This season, he has secured 1,902 yards and 12 touchdowns in six games. While it may not be as remarkable as Caleb Williams’ 2,021 yards and 23 touchdowns for seven games, Maye plays like a promising player and is “all they have there” at North Carolina.

Fans unleash their honest opinions on Caleb Williams as ‘generational’

On Reddit, many fans posed their contrasting opinions, with some calling out Caleb Williams as a generational star. One person commented, “Clear #1 prospect as a QB = generational these days.

Another person posted, I’m guilty. I thought fields was gonna be a monster. I had Trevor as the higher floor but I thought fields would be a f*cking monster.”

More varying opinions flooded in from fans from all angles as they engage through Reddit.

He isn’t ‘generational,’ he’s very good and can be great, but he’s not generational. For me, QB generational is P Manning, A Luck, T Lawrence, J Elway.

Another comment swept in stating, Yeah Trevor Lawrence was also called ‘generational’ and that was 3 years ago. Unless our generations are getting very, very short, it’s all just hyperbole at this point.

But there are also Drake Maye’s supporters, one of whom wrote, Maye has insane arm talent. He flings balls effortlessly, reminds me a little of Rodgers.

The future of Caleb Williams and Drake Maye will be determined next year if they declare for the NFL draft. While ‘generational’ may not exactly be the fitting title, there’s no denying that these are two of the most talented players in college football who have a chance to make it big. So, who do you think is a better prospect?
