“Is Jim Comfortable With That?”: Ball Thrown in Harbaugh’s Court as Chargers’ Internal Power Dynamics Pose Threat to NFL Switch

With the looming consequences of the sign-stealing fiasco, Jim Harbaugh has shown interest in opting out of Michigan now that he has a National Championship under their belt. The Wolverines Coach is in talks with several NFL teams right now, with rumors flying all around. Even former Stanford head coach and another fellow candidate for the Chargers job has confirmed that the position is Harbaugh’s for the taking.

The Chargers have shown significant interest in Harbaugh, with Dean Spanos already having a great dynamic with him. After having fulfilled their Rooney Rule obligations already, there’s nothing stopping them from making the final offer. As such, why has there been no official announcement on that front till now?

John Spanos- the real decider for the Harbaugh deal

“The Chargers are preparing a 15 to maybe as high as $18 million per year offer,” reported James Yoder of Michigan Football Report. Well, as lucrative as the deal sounds, all the stakeholders within the Chargers need to be on the same ground for Jim Harbaugh.

Albert Breer on the Dan Patrick Show might have some intriguing inputs on the internal Chagres dynamic. “The two sons John and AG run the football side and the business side,” he revealed. ” Is John comfortable with that?” was the real question fans must ask, per Breer.

Explaining the situation, he further said, “I think it’s the context under which he’s offered the job. What are the rules of engagement when he’s going in? I think a lot of it’s going to come down to how it’s set up and whether not he’s comfortable with that.”

Chargers have interviewed 10 candidates till now. And Jim Harbaugh has been the most talked about candidate till now, per several reports. Despite all this, even if this offer with the Chargers goes downside, other offers still stand for Harbaugh. Well, not all.

The obstacles Jim Harbaugh faced along the way

Breer, on the same show, reported that Harbaugh did end up in a little conflict with some managing authorities in the past during his stint with the 49ers and Wolverines, saying, “There’s no secret you know, he’s clashed a little with his athletic director at Michigan”. Along with this, Breer also reported that “He had an issue with the owner in San Francisco.” Many fans believe that Harbaugh had to leave the 49ers because of his contemptuous relationship with the front office, specifically with their GM Trent Baalke and CEO Jed York.

Warde Manuel has announced him working multiple times on Harbaugh’s contract extension. However, his efforts could not make Harbaugh stay.
