Shedeur Sanders, the quarterback for Colorado, and Travis Hunter, who plays as both a receiver and cornerback, are among the most highly anticipated prospects for the 2025 NFL draft. Many, including Deion Sanders’ former coach, believe Hunter might have an edge over the rest. 

In his recent appearance on the DNVR Buffs Podcast, the iconic coach drew parallels between Hunter’s phenomenal on-the-field abilities and a former Ravens’ legendary safety, who was able to single-handedly stall the mighty Manning.

Having coached Deion Sanders previously, Billick shared insights into Shedeur’s abilities on the DNVR Buffs Podcast. Brian Billick’s unique experience coaching both father and son provides valuable insights into their dynamic duo. He additionally appreciated Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter for harboring skills like the legendary Ed Reed, “we’ve seen Travis Hunter do some similar things.” Billick talks about an iconic match moment where Reed “baited Peyton Manning way down the field,” and was able to intercept the ball from the hands of “the smartest quarterback in the history of the game.” He continues to explain that Hunter’s exceptional ability does not come from his “freelance” background, but in reality, is a product of good coaching, and intuition, and “a lot of it comes from film work.”

Despite facing injury setbacks that caused him to miss several games, Hunter showcased his exceptional talent by amassing 721 receiving yards, along with five touchdowns and three interceptions last season. His remarkable performance earned him First-Team All-American accolades from prestigious outlets like the Associated Press and the Football Writers Association of America. Adding to the anticipation, Colorado’s head coach Deion Sanders recently expressed his confidence that both Shedeur and Hunter have the potential to be selected as the top two picks in the upcoming NFL draft. And he is not the only one who feels so.

 NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger picks Hunter 

Before Super Bowl LVIII, NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger engaged in a conversation with the DNVR Buffs crew on Radio Row in Las Vegas. During the interview, Baldinger didn’t hold back in his assessment of Colorado football’s standout players, quarterback Shedeur Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. He emphatically labeled Hunter as the “No. 1 player in the country,” showcasing the high regard he holds for Hunter’s exceptional talent. This praise positions Hunter as a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy in the upcoming season. Head coach Deion Sanders followed suit.

During a guest lecture at the University of Colorado Boulder, Deion Sanders mentioned that NFL scouts will closely watch the Buffaloes next season. He believes his son, Shedeur Sanders, and Travis Hunter could be the top two picks in the 2025 NFL draft. Shedeur broke CU’s passing record, and Hunter won the 2023 Paul Hornung Award. Sanders wants scouts to see the team’s depth, including players like Jimmy Horn Jr., Will Sheppard, Shilo Sanders, and Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig.
