Aaron Rodgers’ Rookie Receiver Creates History With Green Bay Packers In Just Two Games

Rookie players are always one to watch in the NFL. And most of the time, they are worth the attention. As the Green Bay Packers are learning right now. Their rookie receiver Christian Watson has already settled into their offense, and in 2 games has shown the Packers a way through the dark times. After recently joining franchise legends Billy Howton, Max McGee, and James Lofton in the 3 receiving touchdown club, he once again showcased his mettle by equally Max McGee’s 68-year franchise record of multiple touchdown catches in consecutive games.

Although Watson’s show did not help overturn their eventual defeat to the Tennessee Titans, he was instrumental in the comeback against the Dallas Cowboys. Against the Cowboys, he bagged 4 catches for 107 yards with 3 touchdowns. And managed 4 catches for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Titans. But interestingly, in both games, Green Bay was playing catch up, and only Watson’s charge helped the Packers push the game against the Cowboys to overtime.

Watson’s emergence could prove to be the key the Packers so desperately need. For almost 10 weeks now, the team lacked a credible receiving threat. But the past couple of games showed the franchise that Watson could effectively fill that role, and with Aaron Jones dominating the rushing plays, the Packers might just have a playoff shot this season.

Can Christian Watson bring Aaron Rodgers’ playoff hopes to reality?

The Packers’ performance this season has been seriously underwhelming. Once considered Super Bowl contenders, their status has quickly diminished to playoff spot contenders. But the Packers’ star man, Aaron Rodgers, feels there is still hope to be had for the Cheeseheads. After the loss to the Titans, Rodgers opined, “If we play up to our potential, we can win the next six games.”

Fans might consider a glimmer of hope of this magnitude from someone about to face the rampant Minnesota Vikings and the high-flying Philadelphia Eagles as a bit too optimistic. But Rodgers is not someone who gives up easily. And with Watson emerging as a lethal weapon, Rodgers can finally unleash at least some of his offense’s potential. The next few games, while crucial in the playoff race, will be a testing ground for the Rodgers-Watson duo.
