Aaron Rodgers is well on his way to New York. The legendary quarterback is finally going to play for the New York Jets in the 2023 season after a tumultuous period of “will he, won’t he.” The Jets and the Packers have reportedly agreed to a feasible deal after compensation was the major cause of the standoff in the A-Rod trade. The Jets are sending a first-round 2023 draft pick, a second-round 2023 draft pick, and a conditional first-round pick in 2023 for the trade of Rodgers from Green Bay to New York.

With the addition of Aaron Rodgers to the Jets roster, maybe the woes of the franchise with its QB position might finally come to an end. Another question that surfaces now is young QB Zach Wilson’s stature within the team, with the arrival of Rodgers. In the midst of the A-Rod trade former NFL QB, Robert Griffin III brought up an old statement made by Wilson last year. 

Aaron Rodgers to face competition at the Jets?

Rodgers’ trade means that he will be taking up the QB1 spot along with his recently traded WR teammate Allen Lazard on the roster. This also means that 23-year-old Zach Wilson might possibly play as the backup QB for Rodgers. But Robert Griffin III brought up an old statement made by Wilson pointing to the fact that Rodgers might not have things that easy at the Jets camp.

In a recent tweet made by Griffin III, he stated, “Zach Wilson going to make Aaron Rodgers life hell in practice every day.” This seems to point to the fact that despite the arrival of A-Rod to New York, Wilson will fight for his spot in the roster as well.

The statement is a throwback to when the young gun QB made a bold claim during a press conference last year.

Earlier, when the 23-year-old QB was asked about his opinion on the Jets signing a veteran QB in the offseason, he did not seem too excited with the idea. He claimed that he would “make that dude’s life hell”, in a statement that seems to point out that he is ready to battle it out to be worthy of a starting role in the roster. But, Wilson does not have good last season career stats to back up those claims. He went 5-4 in nine starts out of a possible 17 for the Jets in 2022. The team then went on to bench him after losing two straight games while contending for a playoff spot with him as their QB1.

The arrival of Rodgers might, on the other hand, prove to be beneficial for Wilson in the long run. Under the guidance and mentorship of the 4X NFL MVP, Wilson might just flourish into a prominent QB in the league in the coming years ahead. For now, fans will be waiting in anticipation to see what goes down at the Jets camp with the arrival of Rodgers.
