The Green Bay Packers came out of their defeat against the New York Jets with a crucial lesson with the need of having good receivers. And to that end, it seems the Packers are gunning on getting an excellent addition to their roster. Reportedly, the Packers are going all in on signing Pittsburgh Steelers’ Chase Claypool, a third-year receiver. Claypool’s performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, only helped strengthen his image, and possibly, the Packers’ resolve to get him.

Although there have been instances, where Claypool was seen as self absorbed, most notably, his first down celebration at the Pittsburgh vs Minnesota Vikings game, back in 2021. The Steelers lost 14 seconds while Claypool showcased a Usain Bolt like lightning bolt celebration. The Steelers lost that game, and criticism rained on the young receiver.

Keeping that aside, though, his stats speak a lot about his potential. In 39 games for the Steelers, he’s managed to catch 144 catches for 1,958 yards with 14 touchdowns. There have been occasions where he has left a defense in the dust and not received a pass. And at a time when the Packers need explosive receivers for Rodgers to pass to, Claypool could be the key to solving their woes.

The bigger question, then, will be the price. What will the Steelers ask in return for Claypool, when they know the Packers are desperate? Speculations are that Pittsburgh should ask for either a second round or a third-round draft pick next year. And trading Claypool could mean the Steelers trying other players in their roster to figure out a different scheme, with a player that fits in well with their star man Kenny Pickett.

NFL fans have mixed reactions at news of Packers chasing Chase Claypool

Claypool’s possible trade hasn’t impressed everyone. But while some still show reservations to the move, some others are ecstatic about it. For them, Claypool’s mistimed celebration long ago is still fresh in their minds. While some believe the Steelers should ask more from the Packers than what the speculations are spinning.

A move to Green Bay could mean that Claypool will have a better chance of starting. The Packers’ #1 receiver on the depth chart is Allen Lazard, which only reinforces the importance Claypool will have when he gets there. Will we see a Rodgers-Claypool combo this season?
