A great offense for the past couple of years under the tutelage of Tom Brady and Todd Bowles, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are finding points much more scarce this season. Even though most of the pieces remain the same. Todd Bowles getting a promotion and Brady returning for yet another season. So what’s missing? According to Mike Evans, it is none other than Rob Gronkowski.

The fan-favorite tight end announced his retirement after the conclusion of this past season. With Brady coming back out of his supposed retirement, talks of Gronk returning were also likely. However, that has not happened yet. And looks more and more unlikely as weeks pass by this NFL season. Mike Evans, the towering wide receiver for the Bucs, even admitted the void left behind by the player. “I miss Gronk.” said Evans.

When asked about the struggling offense even though all the key pieces were still there, the receiver was sharp to remind the press about Gronk’s absence. Reiterating how much he missed the player in the locker room. Further, he highlighted the tight end’s work ethic as well. “He was one of the hardest workers ever been around, and there was a reason why he was so great,” added Evans.

Rob Gronkowski: the locker room leader

Gronkowski is known for his wild parties and ‘everything goes’ attitude. From having party cruises to crazy WWE cameos, the former NFL player has done it all. But none of that can take anything away from the productive career he has had. With 9286 yards and 92 touchdowns in 11 seasons. He was drafted by the New England Patriots in 2010 with the 42nd overall pick. The tight end has only played for Tom Brady as his quarterback, developing a relationship beyond just the sport.

The pair won 3 Super Bowls with the Patriots. Before, Gronkowski came out of retirement after the 2019 season to follow Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. And it took no time for Gronk to take over the dressing room in Florida, as the player earned admiration from all his teammates. The Bucs went on to win the Super Bowl in 2021 with Gronk even catching a ball for a touchdown.

With the Super Bowl champion present, no play looked impossible. The overpowering player offered match-up advantages for the offense wherever he chose to run. However, now, this top-tier offense looks like a shell of its past self, continuously missing important plays. They even failed to convert from the red zone almost half the time. Only time will tell whether they can wait out this poor form or was Gronk really just that important of a piece.
