Retired Tom Brady might consider having a 23-season career lauded with achievements to be enough. After announcing his retirement earlier this year, the 7X Super Bowl champion is making a comeback into the NFL. But this time, it is by wearing the cap of a minority owner with the Las Vegas Raiders. Tom Brady is joining hands with Mark Davis once against after the Las Vegas Aces deal to be a minority shareholder of the NFL team. 

While both Davis and Brady have agreed to the deal, it is still to be approved by the other 32 owners in the NFL. And with the situation that surrounds the Raiders with their QB Jimmy Garoppolo, Brady there might be a way for Brady to make his rumored comeback once again, this time as a player-owner in the league.

Could Tom Brady unretire for the second time?

Recent reports announced that Tom Brady is making his ownership move in the NFL with the Raiders. But with the team’s situation with their recently signed QB Jimmy Garoppolo, many speculated that Brady could be unretiring to fill in his shoes in the QB position while Garoppolo recovers from his surgery. Current league regulations do not allow NFL owners to become players for franchises. But there might be a way that the 7X Super Bowl champion makes his way to the gridiron once again.

According to an article by TMZ, if a majority of NFL owners vote in favor of this motion, Brady could take on the dual role of being an owner-player for the Raiders in the coming days. For this to happen, the first three-fourths of the owners will have to vote for Brady to acquire a minority stake in the Raiders, and the second three-fourths of the owners will have to make a decision on allowing him to play in the league while being an owner. If both votes pass, then we might see the retired 45-year-old playing on the field once again. Even Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman said, “I wouldn’t rule anything out,” while talking about Brady.

Despite Brady stating that he is retiring permanently, Jimmy Garoppolo’s situation led to rumors swirling once again about the 7X Super Bowl champion making a comeback to the league as a player.

The Garoppolo dilemma

The Raiders recently traded long-serving QB1 Derek Carr to the New Orleans Saints this offseason. This led to them acquiring Jimmy Garoppolo to fill in the hole left by Carr’s departure. But Garoppolo suffered from a left foot fracture with the San Francisco 49ers last season. While doctors initially stated that surgery would not be compulsory for the QB to recover, the Raiders discovered that Garoppolo will need to undergo a medical procedure to be fit to play, as he failed the physicals in March. This led to the team restructuring his contract, which now states that they could release Garoppolo without any cost if he fails to clear his physicals before the season starts. 

While Jimmy Garoppolo continues his recovery before the 2023 season begins, one might ponder if he will actually be fit in time for the Raiders. And if not, will Tom Brady decide to fill his spot on the team? Or will they have another backup plan in mind?
