Awkward Fan Interaction Leads to Russell Wilson Reliving His Most Painful Loss

Russell Wilson has faced a few losses in his career, however, the one that stings the most is his Super Bowl XLIX loss in 2015. At the time, Wilson played as a quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks. An awkward fan interaction reminded him of this loss. The fan shouted, “Hey, Malcolm Butler,” referring to the player who intercepted Wilson in the final game, resulting in a loss.

The painful loss was one of the most dreadful moments of Russell’s life. The Seahawks were defeated by the New England Patriots with a score of 28-24 in 2015. As a result, New England fans will never let him forget about the time he was cut off from scoring a touchdown. Consequently, it could’ve potentially made the Seahawks win the big game.

Russell Wilson chose not to react to the fan’s callout, however, he often credits that loss for improving his career. Wilson could have chosen to erase the end of Super Bowl XLIX from his memory. Instead, he took the taking the opposite approach.

How Russell Wilson feels about the loss and its impact on him after 7 years

In the Barstool Sports ‘Pardon My Take‘ podcast, Wilson remarks, “The mindset of being neutral, the mindset of overcoming, the mindset of coming through, the mindset of, ‘I’m not going to let one play define my career’ was — to be honest, it changed my career.”
