Spears said confidently, “It’s an easy yes as well.” Added, “I think it’s five straight AFC championships. So why not bet on that? Why not bet on what we saw last year?” He admitted that the NFL season is long and uncertain, but he trusts Mahomes and the Chiefs along with coach Andy Reid, who have shown grit and a knack for reaching the Super Bowl.

Spears pointed to their stellar record of five straight AFC titles. He said it’s smart to back them based on their history. He remembered a chat with ESPN colleagues in Phoenix, where they agreed the Eagles were stronger but picked the Chiefs anyway because of Mahomes. “I actually picked the Chiefs. I was a little nervous about it admittedly,” he added, “But the reason why? Is because of 15 [Mahomes].”
