‘It Ended Sour’ – Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff Claims Rams Gave Him No Heads up Before Being Traded

The NFL can sometimes be ruthless. And right now, perhaps no one knows that better than Jared Goff. The quarterback from UCB was drafted by the LA Rams with the first overall pick back in 2016 with hopes of being the side’s signal-caller for the years to come.
Goff achieved reasonable success with the franchise. His five seasons in LA saw the QB be named to the Pro Bowl twice. His performances in 2018 even helped his side make Super Bowl LIII.
The Rams though failed to get over the final hurdle and things were never quite the same since. Missing the playoffs the very next season, and then with an early exit in the 2020 postseason to follow, the Rams were desperately looking for answers.

And it’s clear that the management believed where they were falling short. Trading Jared Goff and a bunch of other first-round picks for Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions, the side showed just how little faith they had left in their QB.
Sealing the deal before last season’s Super Bowl even kicked off, the urgency to offload Goff was clear. Seemingly a trade that materialized out of nowhere, it seems Goff too was blindsided by the Rams’ decision making.
Jared Goff left LA with a bitter taste in his mouth
Appearing on the Rich Eisen Show, Goff was asked about the move that saw him move to Detroit. And not one to mince his words, the QB stated that he had no inclination about the move before it went through.

“I try so much to not talk about this… But to be honest, I had no inclination of it. But again, things happen for a reason… I had a lot of fun there. I spoke about it early on after the trade. A lot of good moments, a lot of good times but it’s in the rearview mirror at this point,” Goff said.

Pressed again about whether or not the trade would happen, Goff maintained his decorum and insisted that while things ended sour in LA, he’s looking to move on and establish himself in Detroit.

“I’m excited to be here. I had a lot of fun there. There were a lot of good times obviously. It ended sour. and I think to answer your overall question. No, there was not any inclination, or anything like that was coming. But again, it’s what happens and I’m happy to be here.”
Goff clearly isn’t too happy about how hastefully things happened. But like a model professional, the QB looks to now be solely focused on helping his current side achieve their goals.
