Jalen Hurts is quickly becoming a Philly legend as the 24-year-old prepares to face off with Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs for the Lombardi this Sunday. He is now the second Philly quarterback in a span of 6 years to take the Birds to the Championship game. And the Philly ownership didn’t fail to acknowledge Jalen’s prolific leadership.

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie spoke to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio during the Super Bowl’s opening night activities. And he was mightily impressed with his quarterback. The Philly organization has always had its fair share of great black quarterbacks. And Hurts is etching his name on that elite list.

Jalen Hurts doesn’t need to worry about his Eagles’ future

After Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb, it’s now Jalen Hurts’ time. And Hurts has already set an all-time NFL record with his 15th rushing QB touchdown this season breaking the 14-TD record previously held by Cam Newton. Yes, the Eagles have a strong defensive and offensive unit to complement Hurts. However, Philly suffered in the games, which Hurts missed this season.

“I don’t think he has anything to prove. He is an MVP-caliber quarterback, and an incredible leader of the team on the field, off the field. He’s 24 years old, incredibly mature and, most importantly, driven to be even better. What we’re seeing today I think is just the beginning for Jalen. The future is bright and very exciting for all of us,” Lurie said, as per ESPN.

There will be no contract talks for Hurts this week

Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes are also creating history this weekend as the first two black starting quarterbacks to match up for a Super Bowl game. And Lurie wants his men to have only one thing on their minds; the franchise’s second Lombardi.

On being asked if Hurts’ contract extension is an assured thing, Lurie confirmed it. But “certainly not this week.” And Hurts doesn’t mind. “We’ll kind of handle that later on. Get there when we get there,” Hurts remarked about Laurie’s comments.

Going by current terms, Hurts will make roughly $4.2 million next year without any further contract extensions. However, if Hurts can top Mahomes and Co on Sunday at State Farm Arena, fans can surely expect the young QB to secure a double-digit signing.
