Kansas City Chiefs recently made a big move before entering the 2022 season as they released Anthony Hitchens in order to save cap space for the team. The linebacker joined the Chiefs with a 5 year $45 Million contract back in the year 2018. That said, people were deeply predicting the cost-cutting move to take place.

Hitchens was also responsible for calling for the plays during the match, and he also helped in making the franchise win their second Super Bowl. The athlete delivered his initial 4 years with the Dallas Cowboys before breaking into Kansas City.

Chiefs’ Big Money Save

The release of Anthony Hitchens isn’t a big surprise to anyone, as this was highly speculated. As the Kansas City Chiefs were facing a salary-cap blow, Hitchens’ $9 Million salary could’ve been unreasonable for them. With this move, the franchise can save $8.4 million against the salary cap 2022.

Anthony Hitchens for Chiefs’ Rescue

Anthony Hitchens made a smashing career the year he joined the Chiefs in 2018. He made his career-best 135 tackles and 4 tackles for loss in his introductory year with the chiefs.

The athlete boasted some remarkable stats during his run and as he wraps up his journey alongside the Chiefs; he was the team captain, who finished 59 regular season and 11 post-season games, and set a statistic record of 381 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 12 QB hits and was majorly effective for breaking the franchise’ 50-year Super Bowl losing streak in the year 2020.

The linebacker has been eminently prosperous in his run alongside Kansas City, and the team is structured carefully.

Anthony’s veteran instinct was beneficial in his first two seasons. However, the athlete’s momentum has slowed down a bit as he was recording a fewer number of tackles, which may have led the Kansas City Chiefs to make such a decision.
