He went down memory lane as he brought up an incident from his first game for the Chiefs in 2017. “I remember my first game. Tyreek had a huge game but Travis had one reception for 6 yards. You look at our relationship now and you’ll think that is crazy,” said Mahomes.

Though Tyreek Hill transferred to the Dolphins, his monumental presence for the Chiefs has been replaced by Kelce. The numbers that these two combine for are nowhere close to those from his initial days.

Mahomes’ father ‘Silky P’ paved the way for greatness

In what was a disappointing outing for Kelce, Mahomes remembered how his father consoled the tight end. This consolation, however, turned out to be Senior Mahomes’ accidental prediction of the future. “My dad big silky P went there and kinda grabbed Travis and said hey he’s going to throw it to everybody, so just know your time’s coming your time’s coming,” said Mahomes.

Little did they know that Kelce wouldn’t have had to wait for too long for his time to come. “Next game we play the Steelers, Travis has 140- 2 touchdowns. My dad said he grabbed him after the game and told him I told you,” shared a thrilled Mahomes.

While Mahomes senior might have just been looking out for his son’s teammate, he didn’t know he was paving the way for one of the greatest on-field relationships in the NFL. Chiefs fans have all the reasons to celebrate, but it turns out they will have Papa Mahomes to thank as well.
