This is an issue that, if solved, could help bolster their offensive firepower and passing game on the field. Hopkins was released by the Cardinals recently after all the speculations surrounding his trade. And after his release, the Patriots have scheduled a visit for Hopkins. Even the Indianapolis Colts are looking forward to seeing the possibilities of negotiating with the WR. But on the show, NFL insider Ian Rapoport feels that the Patriots could be the likely landing spot for Hopkins. While talking about the possibility of the WR wanting a deal like Odell Beckham Jr, Rapoport said that the Patriots could negotiate a two-year deal around the “average he wants.” He went on to talk about how he felt the Patriots have a problem at the WR position. Rapoport said, “It kind of never felt like to me like the Patriots were done this off-season cause they did have a need of receiver that was pretty glaring. This would seem to fill that in a pretty big way.”

The WR issue for the New England Patriots has been one that has been existing for years now, going back to the days of Tom Brady in 2019.

The Patriots WR dilemma

Back in 2019, Brady was frustrated at the lack of talents to make passes to in the WR position. This led to Antonio Brown and Mohamed Sanu being overcompensated for the lack of talent. In 2020, Julian Edelman was still the most reliable WR even during the time of his final season after 12 years with the team. Even in this year’s draft, the Patriots were reportedly eyeing receivers to fill the void in their roster. But the talent pool did not impress them enough, as they later brought in Kayshon Boutte and Demario Douglas in the sixth round as rookie talents. They even signed Juju Smith-Schuster after his Super Bowl-winning season with the Kansas City Chiefs. But would this be enough to give Mac Jones the talent he needs on the field?
