The Patrick Mahomes juggernaut continues to steamroll the opponents. But the usually excited Kansas City Chiefs QB seemed a little held back after the game. And the reason for that is Damar Hamlin. The safety’s horrific injury last Monday mellowed down the playoff excitement for Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Hamlin is doing well in the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. But Mahomes had him at the back of his mind while taking the field for the first time since that fateful day.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs ended the regular season on a high with a win over the struggling Las Vegas Raiders. And they go into the playoffs as the number one seed in the AFC. But Mahomes wasn’t thinking about it. For him, there are some things that are bigger than football. And the Damar Hamlin situation does fall in that category.

“Yeah, it was definitely weird, man,” Mahomes said about playing for the first time since Hamlin’s cardiac arrest. Mahomes said that the Buffalo Bills safety is in the back of everyone’s mind, and he wants to be there for the young player.

“I mean it’s a game that you love, you played your entire life. And you’ve enjoyed, had so many great moments and has brought so many great things to you. But obviously with the situation that happened on Monday night with Damar, I mean you still have that in the back of your mind. Not him going down or anything like that, but you just want to be there for him. There is so much stuff bigger than football,” the MVP frontrunner added in the post-game presser.

With the Bills’ game with the Cincinnati Bengals not going ahead, the Chiefs have clinched the top spot in the AFC seeding. And that completes the second goal on the QB’s checklist of the season. And Mahomes looks set for a third Super Bowl appearance in four seasons.

The Chiefs go marching on

Another day, another victory for the Chiefs. This has become a pattern that is repeated on the weekly basis this season. With a big 31-13 win over division rivals the Raiders, the Chiefs have ended the 2022 regular season with 14 wins. And they have dropped just three games in the process. Totally Super Bowl credentials.

Mahomes had a quieter game than usual with just 202 passing yards and one touchdown pass. But he ended the regular season with the highest passing yards and touchdown passes in the entire NFL. Having a 5,000+ passing yards season in the league is no joke. Can he clinch his second Super Bowl title when it comes to that this season?
