Bezos’ name has done rounds in the NFL world with regard to a franchise purchase in recent months. And new reports suggest there might be truth in the rumors after all.

Jeff Bezos is the frontrunner to buy the beleaguered NFL franchise, the Washington Commanders. According to Charles Gasparino of the FOX Business Network, the sale will go through after the owners meeting in the month of March. And most people in the NFL circles are convinced that the Amazon owner will bid for the franchise when it happens.

The Commanders owner Dan Snyder hired the Bank of America late last year to look into a possibility of a sale. But he did not clarify at the time if he wanted a full or partial sale. The recent reports suggest that Snyder is looking for a full sale of the franchise and most people believe Bezos has the financial muscle for the purchase.

Amazon has its headquarters in Washington and Bezos also owns the Washington Post. So, getting one more thing dear to the capital city makes a lot of sense to him. The Commanders have struggled in recent seasons and a sale might just reignite the sleeping giant.

The Commanders have struggled in recent NFL history and have made it to the postseason only twice since the 2012 season. In fact, they last won a playoff game all the way back in the 2005 season. And that is the struggling team’s only playoff win in the 21st century.

The franchise finished dead last in a competitive NFC East division this season. They finished the regular season with an 8-8-1 overall record. But their divisional rivals played much better football, with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys both making the playoffs. 

Apart from the on-field struggles of the team, owner Dan Snyder is facing serious sexual harassment allegations off the field. So, all these factors combined in to force Snyder to look for a sale. Will the Amazon owner actually buy the franchise? And if he actually does, will the Commanders command the NFL under his regime?
