‘This Guy Still Has It’- Indianapolis Colts Head Coach Frank Reich Has Full Confidence in Carson Wentz

The Indianapolis Colts are undoubtedly taking a gamble with quarterback Carson Wentz. The franchise traded for Wentz by parting ways with a 3rd-round pick in 2021 and a conditional 2nd-round pick for 2022, which could turn into a 1st-rounder.
Bringing in Wentz, it’s clear that the former Philadelphia Eagles player will be their QB1 for the upcoming season. A starting quarterback who had almost as many interceptions as touchdowns in 2020.
But that’s the risk the Colts are willing to take. And according to the franchise’s Head Coach Frank Reich, it’s a calculated risk based on hours of studying film.

Carson Wentz is not done just yet
Speaking to SI.com, Reich said that watching the QB’s game footage from 2019 was enough to convince him that Wentz still has more left in the tank.
“All you had to do, for me, was turn on the film in 2019, and with four games to go the Eagles needed to win out… And not only did they need to win out, but in each of those games, as I recall, looking at the film, Carson had to play great in the second half, and play a major role in that team winning those games in the second half,” said Reich.

While admitting that the wins from 2019 were team efforts, Reich lauded Carson Wentz for the role he played in the Eagles making the Playoffs that season.
“Now, they were team wins, they were team efforts, it wasn’t a one-man show. But Carson made the plays that a quarterback needs to make when you need to win four games in a row to make the playoffs,” Reich said.

“He did that, and that wasn’t 2017. That was 2019. So in my mind, that just confirmed to me this guy still has it,” he added.
The Colts have been in dire need of a long-term solution to their quarterback woes for some time now. Ever since Andrew Luck’s shock retirement before the start of the 2019 season, the Colts have tried and failed to find a replacement.
