Trevor Lawrence and ‘Big Apple’ Appeal: Why New York Jets Would be a Dream Destination for any NFL Coach

The New York Jets have suffered a dismal run in the NFL over the past few seasons. The last time the Jets registered a winning record in the regular season was back in 2015 when they went 10-6. To find out the last time they made the Playoffs, one has to go back even further, all the way back to 2010.
This season has been no different, as a matter of fact, it’s been even worse. 13 games into their season and they sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 0-13 record.
Even with such a track record, the Jets job remains a lucrative one for NFL coaches. Let’s dig deeper as to why anyone would want to hop on the Jets bandwagon.

Tank for Trevor
The Jets tanking this season will have serious implications for next year’s draft. Their complete washout so far puts them in place to draft the #1 overall pick in the next season.
And if rumors are anything to go by, the Jets are in line to draft one of the biggest quarterback prospects in recent years- Trevor Lawrence.

‘Tank for Trevor’ has been doing the rounds all season long and with the Jets looking set to replicate the 2017 Browns 0-16 record, they might just end up getting their man.
All this, however, hinges upon one thing, Lawrence declaring for the draft. The quarterback for the Clemson Tigers is yet to do so, but many believe it is only a matter of time before he does.
And any coach in the world would be glad to have a generational talent like him at their disposal.
Other draft picks for New York Jets
Thanks to the trade of the All-Pro strong safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks earlier in the offseason, the Jets will have a bevy of other early round picks for the 2021 draft.
Their fortunes in the draft will extend to the 2022 draft as well. The trade saw the Jets let go of Adams for a 2022 4th-round draft pick for a 2021 1st-round pick, 2021 3rd-round pick, 2022 1st-round pick, and safety Bradley McDougald.
The Jets can pick no worse than third in the 2021 NFL draft. Although, at this point, picking third would be an unmitigated disaster for every New York Jets fan. #TakeFlight

Add to that, the Jets will have two other second and third-round picks in the 2021 draft as well. With all these draft picks, any coach or GM would have a field day in recruiting a supporting cast of players for QB Trevor Lawrence.

New York’s media and marketing appeal
The ‘Big Apple’, as it is fondly known, is a dream destination for a sports franchise from a marketing standpoint. Being one of the most sought after destinations in the world, teams from the area naturally enjoy an advantage thanks to the huge market that the city gives access to.
NYC also ranks #1 when it comes to the television market size that it presents with Los Angeles coming second. As it stands, the Jets are a mess. But being based out of New York, with the right mix of coaching staff and players, the Jets have all the tools necessary to establish a dynasty.
