Colin Kaepernick is on a different journey from his NFL days. The former San Francisco 49ers QB has come to the forefront of the fight against racial discrimination, becoming a civil rights activist for the marginalized people in the county. This fight against oppression began in 2016 when he refused to stand during the national anthem and also kneeled during the same.

While being at the forefront of the Black Lives Matter movement, Colin Kaepernick also spoke up about the racial inequalities being a part of the NFL. While it’s been seven years since the beginning of this stance, Kaepernick still is strong in his opinions about the changes against discrimination in the league.

Colin Kaepernick believes the league still has a lot to do

After the controversial kneeling incident, Kaepernick’s contract with the 49ers expired soon after. He remained unsigned, which led to him suing the NFL with claims that owners colluded against him being a part of any roster. But he reached a settlement with the league in 2018, after which he still went unsigned after two tryouts which were attended by NFL scouts. Kaepernick has recently stated that things haven’t progressed substantially since his own pro football days.

According to an article by Fox Sports, Colin Kaepernick recently had an interview with Juana Summers on NPR. During the interview, Summers asked the ex-NFL star whether the NFL has “changed for the better.” Kaepernick went on to reply that he has not seen “any substantial change” taking place. He said, “I think there is a lot of work to do on that front. Obviously, not playing and being out of the NFL for six years is an indictment on where they are currently at. So I wouldn’t put them at the forefront of goodwill and best of intentions in how they operate.”

“I’m Just Too Paranoid”: Mother of Colin Kaepernick’s Child Restricts Baby Kap From a Privilege Thousands of Kids Enjoy

The NFL recently announced that their Inspire Change has reached $300 million in contributions as Kaepernick continues to voice his strong opinions against discrimination in the country.

Kaepernick’s activism efforts

While Kaepernick’s 2016 kneeling was the beginning of the fight against police brutality and racism, he still continues to voice his own opinions strongly regarding issues of racism and discrimination. He also recently launched a graphic novel ‘Change the Game’, where he even talked about the underlying issues of racism even with his own family. This led to many eminent sports personalities calling out Kap’s behavior and calling out his family.

Most recently, he also teamed up with Hay Market Books to provide free access to the ‘OUR HISTORY HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONTRABAND’ book. This is retribution against Ron DeSantis’s ‘Stop W.O.K.E Act’, which prohibits the discussion of certain civil unrest topics in schools. While Kaepernick continues to voice his unrest against racism and discrimination, he will also be looking forward to the NFL implementing more effective changes in the future.
