The trailblazing gymnast who helped make history at Fisk University is turning the page on one chapter while keeping her vision firmly locked on the next. The gymnast, once a top recruit for the Arkansas Razorbacks, made headlines in 2022 when she turned down a Power Five offer to join Fisk University’s inaugural gymnastics team — the first ever at a historically Black college or university (HBCU). Her decision was driven by a powerful mission: to represent her roots, uplift the sport, and inspire young gymnasts of color across the country. And inspire, she did.

Throughout three seasons, Morgan Price became a cornerstone of the Fisk gymnastics program, helping it grow from a historic concept into a nationally celebrated reality. “I know that a lot of little gymnasts, whether they’re a minority or not, look up to us because they see a whole team full of Black and brown gymnasts doing the sport that they love,” she once said. “It shows that you can also do college gymnastics as well, as long as you keep working hard and putting your mind to it.”

Now, with one year of NCAA eligibility remaining, Morgan Price has announced her decision to enter the transfer portal — signaling a major shift in her journey, but not in her purpose. On May 6, Price took to Instagram to share the news, posting a heartfelt message that resonated deeply with fans and supporters of HBCU gymnastics. Her caption read: “Forever grateful for Fisk and incredibly proud of all we’ve accomplished together at @fiskugymnastics. This isn’t goodbye—it’s simply ‘see you again soon.’💙” Alongside the post was a longer note that struck an emotional chord: she narrated Fisk University as “FISK WILL ALWAYS BE HOME.” The big Thank You post has a few more emotional words.

Morgan’s move was filled with emotion and meaning, signaling the end of a powerful chapter, but the beginning of an even bolder dream. “This has honestly been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make,” she wrote in her post. “But after a lot of thought, reflection, and prayer, I’ve decided to transfer for my final year of eligibility.” And with that, the gymnast who turned down a Power Five offer to be part of something historic—a first-of-its-kind HBCU gymnastics team—shared her gratitude for the program that helped shape her into a national icon. She wrote, “Fisk University gave me a purpose bigger than myself. It gave me a historic opportunity to be part of something no one had ever done before – to present the first-ever HBCU gymnastics team on a national stage.” And she didn’t just present it—she elevated it.

But as she prepares for her next move, Morgan isn’t just leaving behind a program—she’s carrying forward a legacy. Inspired by her former coach, Corrinne Tarver, and uplifted by teammates and fans, she is stepping forward with fire in her heart and a vision in her soul. How so?

The Tennessee native wrote in her post, “I’m eager to compete on a bigger stage and ready to push myself to new limits. Thank you to my family who provides me with constant love and unwavering support. Thank you to all of my teammates, coaches, mentors, and everyone who supported me on this journey. I’m excited and nervous for what’s next-but I’m walking into it with faith and everything Fisk taught me.”

Now, with one year of eligibility left and a dream of one day becoming an HBCU gymnastics coach herself, Morgan Price’s story is far from over. Wherever she lands next, one thing is certain: she will bring the same grit, grace, and groundbreaking spirit that’s already etched her name into the history books.

The HBCU gymnastics pro entered history

Morgan Price didn’t just make waves in 2025—she redefined what’s possible for HBCU athletes in the world of collegiate gymnastics. On February 8, in a high-stakes quad meet against Temple, Southern Connecticut, and the University of Pennsylvania, the Fisk University sophomore delivered perfection. With laser focus and unmatched flair, Price became the first HBCU gymnast ever to score a perfect 10.0 on the floor exercise. It was a goosebumps moment, not just for her team, but for the entire gymnastics world. And that was only the beginning.

As Black History Month drew to a close, Price and her teammates had one more statement to make. On February 29, Fisk Gymnastics stunned the field by defeating both a Division I and a Division II program, becoming the first HBCU gymnastics team to ever do so. It was a bold, history-making win, powered by precision, pride, and Morgan’s relentless drive. But the fireworks started last year.

On April 11, 2024, Price reached a career and cultural milestone that etched her name into the annals of sports history. Competing at the USA Gymnastics Women’s Collegiate National Championships, she delivered across every apparatus to win the All-Around title, becoming the first gymnast from an HBCU program to win a collegiate national championship. That moment wasn’t just a personal triumph—it was a seismic shift in the sport. Price had officially become the first HBCU athlete to wear the crown of National Champion in All-Around competition, proving that excellence has no boundaries and that representation truly matters.
