Almost two years after saying “I do,” Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens finally carved out time for the honeymoon they’d long postponed. Their destination? The wild heart of South Africa, where they ventured on a breathtaking safari through untamed landscapes in February. As they made their way back to the U.S., Biles shared a heartfelt reflection on Instagram: “My heart is so full.” That single sentence captured more than just a trip, it echoed the highs and hurdles of their journey since marrying in 2023. With Biles chasing Olympic glory in Paris and Owens forging a new path in the NFL, love has often meant loving from afar.

“Honestly, since my husband and I got married, we’ve been doing long-distance. Long distance isn’t easy,” Biles told E! News after she finally got to spend some quality time with Owens following the Olympics and her GOAT Tour. While they have turned up to support each other from the stands, time together has been hard to buy, and now, after being in each other’s company for some time, they had to part ways again.

“Glad I got to see you for a short bit before jetting off to the airport (black heart emoji),” Simone wrote on her Instagram story today, followed by a simple yet heartwarming confession along with a smiling selfie with Jonathan, “So incredibly grateful for you ilysfm.” Other than her words and smile, what popped up was the necklace she was wearing! Yes, the very well-known “OWENS” necklace. Simone’s Instagram story gave a raw glimpse into the emotional tug-of-war of long-distance love.

Fans who’ve followed their journey know this isn’t the first time the power couple has had to juggle time zones and packed calendars. With Jonathan deep in off-season grind mode with the Chicago Bears and Simone bouncing between work and travel, it seems that being apart is just part of the deal when you’re chasing big dreams. But that doesn’t mean it ever gets easier.

Immediately after their wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Owens had to head to Green Bay to complete his move from Chicago. Opening up on what she felt on the Today Show in 2023, Biles said, “Right after Cabo, he went to Green Bay and signed, and two days later, he was up there, so it’s been different.” The gymnast has also admitted she “cried a lot,” as she tried to adjust to their long-distance marriage.

Her decorated career has kept her occupied and away from her husband, but now that Biles has done it all, questions linger over her gymnastics future and her participation in LA 2028. Earlier this year, speaking to Sports Illustrated, she opened up on how she isn’t sure if she wants to continue and whether it will be really worth it.

“Because I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do, rather than to just be snobby and to try again and for what? If you go back, you’ll be greedy. Those are the consequences. But that’s also your decision to decide. What sacrifices would be made if I go back now? When you’re younger, it’s like prom, college. Now it’s like starting a family, being away from my husband. What’s really worth it?,” she said. For Owens has well, it has been equally difficult.

Owens signed with the Bears around the same time Biles began preparing for the Paris Olympics. Biles then further took part in the “Gold Over America Tour,” meaning they had even less time with each other. Finally, in November, when the tour concluded, they got time with each other.

In an interview with Fox 32 Chicago, Owens said, “I mean last year she was still training and I was up in Green Bay so we weren’t able to be together as much. This is really like our first time getting being able to just be married and I come home and it’s a food cooking and it smells good.”

Meanwhile, the goodbye story wasn’t the only one shared by Simone?

In her next story, she posted a picture of her pet dog Lilo Biles, and the caption read, “Miss girl loves her lamby & couch bed.” Well, Lilo was resting on the couch with a white and purple lamb soft toy. And it looked like a pure bliss moment.

Simone soon followed up the story with a mirror selfie standing next to her suitcase and handbag, captioned, “off again. I swear I never stop moving, but I feel so blessed to travel the world for work & vacation.” And honestly, no one does the jet-set life quite like her. Simone Biles is a travel bug, and that is a well-established fact by now.

Most recently, she was spotted vacationing on the shores of the Bahamas. And before that, she also went on a long honeymoon with her husband Jonathan Owens to South Africa, and just before that, she was vacationing in Switzerland. Apart from her long travels, she has also been taking quick breaks as she visited LSU and then her best friend, Kayla Simone’s, baby shower. Well, let’s just say it’s becoming difficult to keep up with Simone’s travel shenanigans.

In yet another Instagram story shared today, she was clinking glasses with her parents. So, is she on vacation with her parents? Or was it just a small visit? Well, only Simone Biles knows it all! But one thing is for sure: Simone Biles is again away from Jonathan Owens. And this wasn’t their first time being apart, but just like today, they have also found ways to spend time together.

Their career commitments made staying together a very difficult task. The couple has been in an on-and-off long-distance relationship.

Biles has often shown up to NFL games to cheer for Owens, and he has duly returned the favor and kept the spark alive in their long-distance marriage. Even while training with the Green Bay Packers, Owens ensured Biles felt cherished by sending her flowers weekly. Biles shared on Instagram, “These showed up at my doorstep. He still makes sure I get flowers weekly, even though he’s 1,000 miles away. Best husband @jowens.”

They try to celebrate every big and little milestone together. But for someone always on the move, those quiet, everyday moments would have become her most treasured, as distance again separates the two.
