The 2022 PGA Tour has had a captivating start so far. And the first event of the 2022 PGA Tour in continental America started recently with a unique American Express event. Notably, this is not a regular PGA Tour event that has a 36-hole cut. Instead, there is a cut after 54-holes with both professionals and amateurs competing.
There is a 54-hole cut for the event because of the format for play. More importantly, there are three courses where every player plays once on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The three courses for the 2022 American Express are La Quinta Country Club, the PGA West Nicklaus Course, and the PGA West Stadium Course. Notably, Jack Nicklaus has designed the PGA West Nicklaus Course, while Pete Dye has designed the PGA West Stadium course.

The PGA West Stadium course is considered being tougher than the other two. And only the top 65 plus ties will make it to the final day on the Stadium course itself. Hence, players need to get off to a good start at La Quinta and Nicklaus course.
Notably, this year the field contains some star players like Patrick Cantlay, Jon Rahm, Jason Day, Phil Mickelson, and a few others. Moreover, Cantlay co-leads the event with a score of -10 as he was playing at the La Quinta Country Club. While Jon Rahm, who was on the same course, remained -6 for the day.

However, Phil Mickelson had a horrifying round one, as he is T154 with a score of +6. He shot a 9 on the par 4 eighth hole and a double bogey on the second hole. Hence, even an eagle and a couple of birdies couldn’t save him from finishing tied last with Matthew Wolff.
