The 2021-22 PGA Tour season kicked off in style at the Napa Valley a few days ago. The Fortinet Championship began September 16, and is being hosted at the Silverado Resort and Spa in the wine country.

Phil Mickelson, the 45-time PGA Tour winner, amazed us all with his game. He is currently T-24 with a 5-under par total of 139. On the 16th hole of the second day, his tee shot steered off to the left and fell amidst the trees in the rough. With the help of his driver, he came back into the fairway while making it look extremely effortless. Moreover, he also made a birdie on the hole!

Golf Digest took to Twitter to express their surprise and excitement at Mickelson’s way of tackling the problem. They posted a clip of his tee shot and wrote, “Is there any place he won’t take driver off the deck?!” In the thread, they also posted a video of his birdie putt. Mickelson replied to the tweet and hilariously wrote, “Nope.”

Leadership board summary after the first 2 rounds

The 25-year-old Maverick McNealy is on the top of the leaderboard with a score of 12-under par. Tied for second place are Beau Hossler and Mito Pereira, two strokes under the American. 2021 Masters Champion Hideki Matsuyama is T-17 along with seven other golfers.
In a surprising event, world number 1 Jon Rahm failed to make the cut with a total score of 1 under par. In addition, 2021 Wyndham Championship winner Kevin Na also failed to make the cut.

Let’s see if McNealy will continue to impose his superiority in the next few days, or will another replace him on the leaderboard.
