PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan Denies Receiving Storage Complaints for PS5

A few days before Sony was to launch the PlayStation 5, there were claims about the device’s storage space. The PS5 has an SSD worth 825GB. However, the software occupies 20% of that storage. Therefore, only 664GB of storage is available for users to make use of.
Taking into account the launch lineup of the next-gen console, players won’t be able to store a lot of games. Take Black Ops Cold War for instance. The game takes up one-fifth of the console’s space. If one adds NBA 2K21 and Miles Morales to the batch, that’s an additional 200 GB.

Noticing the issue, The Telegraph reached out to Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan. They asked whether Sony has been receiving complaints about the lack of storage, but Jim denied getting any such complaints.

Sony ‘isn’t hearing’ PlayStation 5 storage criticism
As a response to The Telegraph’s question, Jim said, “We’re not hearing that“. He further added “We’ll obviously watch what happens as people unbox their PlayStations and start to use them. We think we’ll be okay. We obviously are able to monitor hard drive usage on the PS4 microscopically and everything that we saw there indicates that we should be fine.”
There are high skepticisms about his statement. Currently, the PS5 doesn’t offer any scope of expandable storage. Moreover, it also cannot store games on external hard drives. Therefore, till Sony doesn’t introduce support for expandable SSD through a future firmware update, fans will have to ration their storage.

Video Game Chronicle also reports that The Telegraph also questioned Jim about a few other things. Jim refused to talk about God of War: Ragnarok releasing on the PS4 and the PS5 next year. Moreover, Ryan also defended Sony’s decision of increasing the price of PS5 software to $70.
Combined with hardware and software problems, the launch of the PS5 hasn’t been perfect for Sony. However, the launch has certainly been successful with the demand far outmatching the supply for the next-gen console.
