PlayStation Indies Initiative Announces 9 New Titles

PlayStation is glad to formally announce the PlayStation Indies Initiative with the release of nine titles coming to both PS4 and PS5. PlayStation Indies is an initiative that aims at supporting independent game developers by giving them a platform by releasing their games on PS. They announced this exciting news on Twitter yesterday:

PlayStation Plus Marks 10 Year Anniversary with 3 Exciting Games
Shuhei Yoshida, head of PlayStation Indies, wrote an article on the PlayStation official blog announcing this as well. In the article, Yoshida gives a complete explanation of what this initiative entails and how it came to be. Yoshida says that he is a big fan of indie games himself and is quite excited to announce this initiative formally.
“Efforts to help make indie developers’ lives easier and their titles shine”
Yoshida says that with this initiative, PlayStation is trying to support and showcase the best of indie games on the platform. The goal of this initiative is to support the indie community as a whole. Yoshida says that they want to make PlayStation the best platform to develop, find, and play quality independent games.

During a time when AAA game development has grown so financially demanding, independent game developers might just set the course for the future of the gaming industry. Yoshida says that game companies are finding it hard to risk their investments on an experimental concept that might not work.

“We trust indie developers with strong vision will continue to bring ideas that have never been tried before, creating whole new genres of games and advancing the art and meaning of video games.”
He adds that PlayStation as a platform has always been a home to lots of exciting new ideas. With this initiative, they are looking forward to experimenting with more of such concepts. “I was so excited to see the strong reactions to the amazing indie titles featured in the PS5 Future of Gaming event a few weeks ago,” Yoshida adds.

Titles to debut alongside the PlayStation Indies initiative
As said before, PS will be revealing 9 exciting titles for both PS4 and PS5. Let us take a look:
- A real-time multiplayer action game “Worms Rumble” (PS4/PS5)
- A co-op adventure called “Haven” (PS4/PS5)
- An innovative puzzle adventure called “Carto” (PS4)
- A hacking-themed platform game, “Recompile” (PS5)
- A narrative adventure called “Where the Heart Is” (PS4, Winter 2020)
- “Maquette“, a world simulation and puzzle-making game
- Action-based platform game “F.I.S.T.” (PS4)
- “Heavenly Bodies” (PS4/PS5)
- “Creaks” (PS4)

Along with this, Yoshida says that a new indie title will join the “PlayStation Now” service every month. The first addition to this will be “Hello Neighbor” in July.
Indie games always bring something new and experimental to the table. We hope that this initiative turns out to be as exciting as it sounds. This will surely result in the addition of some interesting and innovative titles to the roster of PlayStation games.
